Elliott Spitzer sucks. Last night as democrats were rejoicing in the clear Biden smack down of Paul Ryan, Mr. Spitzer did all he could to poison the water. As Cenk welcomed the audience back from the debate you could clearly see his enthusiasm. He was smiling and rejoicing and then threw it to Mr. Spitzer who said

"Were you watching a different debate than I was?
Then he proceeded with the hand-wringing and legitimizing of Paul Ryan's arguments and you could see the mood in the studio deflate in a manner of seconds.

more below.

Now I will admit, I had low tolerance for Mr. Spitzer and quickly changed the channel, which brings me to my point. Elliot Spitzer is doing Current TV no favors. For 1, he is just a plain boring host. I can never watch his program for more than a few minutes. His voice is unappealing, his cadence is mundane and I can't image he's popular with women.

He may be a good litigator but TV is not his cup of tea.

But what's worst his in the middle of a presidential election is not the time for liberals to undermine democrats. That's what you do in primaries. Republicans seem to understand this (now).

Current's coverage of the VP debate didn't do democrats any favors. If this was CNN or CBS I wouldn't bother with this diary. But Current is clearly leaning left and supposedly a friendly place for democrats. Democrats don't need friends like Elliot Spitzer.

If Current wants to grow, they need to replace Elliot Spitzer.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I don't have Current, so haven't seen him on that show, but every other time I've seen him he has been a great spokesman, much better than most, for liberal values and Democratic policies.

...then that only people who can afford the premium cable packages can current then.  I was going to hector comcast to provide current in the basic package then current went and canned Olbermann so I didn't bother.

I like Keith Olbermann, and really liked his show, but what he was doing at current, no other network would have put up with it for more than a few days.  When you tuned into his show you never knew who was going to be hosting because Keith just wouldn't show up.  It was pretty sad.

I hope he gets another show, and another attitude, but I think he really did himself in at current.

I really like currents coverage of debates because you've got 2 X governors and an X vice president talking about personal experiences you can't get anywhere else.  They do a really nice job.

...one side to that story but no one else on that channel holds any intrest for me.  Except maybe to watch Stephanie Miller rather than just listen.

And in general Gore just pisses me off.  He did not fight the Bush BS because he didn't want to upset people.  I hope all the people killed by Bush haunt him forever.

  •  I like Spitzer (6+ / 0-)

Unlike others, he hasn't forgotten about the financial crisis. His shows are frequently in-depth (for TV) and interacts very well with his guests.

I agree that he is wrong about the debate.

spitzer's usually pretty unbiased & level-headed, so i'm surprised he came off negatively about biden's performance.

he's also made it clear he wants obama to be reelected & thought the prez should've done a better job of convincing voters to renew his contract for 4 more yrs in last week's debate with romney.

      puzzling, to say the least.

He's very smart, and he has a lot to say, especially about financial regulation. when he writes op-eds on this subject, I read them with interest. Unfortunately, whenever I see him, all I can think "Client Number 9" and the tortured look on his wife's face during his resignation press conference.

  •  I saw that, but Spitzer shouldn't go (5+ / 0-)

I keep thinking Spitzer is going to run for something in 2014 or 2016 and that's why he's always criticizing the Democrats.

When he said that, I thought he was really full of shit.  Every one of the others at the table not only disagreed with him, but told him he was full of shit.  I thought Uygur really nailed it about Biden really cleaning up on Ryan.

I actually like Spitzer's show, in spite of Spitzer, because he has really good guests and even though Spitzer is constantly interviewing himself as much as the guests, they talk about important stuff and give some really good incite.

So yes, Spitzer is being a real dick this campaign season, but I wouldn't go so far as to toss him off the network.

    Gore was a contrarian too.

That's why he picked lieberputz and ran as an anti-Clinton.

Repubs started up the car, hit the throttle and sent it over the cliff, and now they're complaining that the black guy hasn't fixed it fast enough.

      •  If Gore had recognized that Clinton was still (0+ / 0-)

massively popular, despite his sexual stupidity, he would be a retired president by now.  Yes, Clinton's scandal made things a little more complicated for Gore, but if Clinton himself could have run for a third term, he would have won, so Gore's running away from him made no sense.

Gore was entitled to be personally pissed off at him (as was I) but that's different than the politics. I still mourn Bush v. Gore (and revile it's twisted 14th Amendment rationale for giving the election to Bush as much as the result itself) and I wish Gore had run in 2004, but he made a political mistake, pure and simple, by running away from Clinton.

Having said all that, I sincerely hope Elliot Spitzer never runs for office again.  He's not got a tenth of the political charisma of Bill Clinton, and he could never overcome his zipper problem.

  •  I think Spitzer is good. (2+ / 0-)

I do not understand finance and economics. I watch Spitzer because he emphasizes both on his show. I like that he is kind of fugly handsome and a little awkward. He is real.

  •  Current TV is a liberal/progressive bastion (2+ / 0-)

It's unlikely too many 'undecided' or wavering voters tuned in. I'm not sure I like the idea of an army of lock step followers. That being said, Spitzer is in favor of Citizens United ruling, and I really hate him for his support of that.

I don't exactly know why, but I don't hate him either. It does bother me that when he was a prosecutor he pursued prostitution actively, which is definitely hypocritical. I only believe that people's personal lives matter if it's directly in opposition to a policy position they hold. I'd probably like Spitzer a lot if he came out in favor of decriminalizing prostitution.

When his fall from grace first hit the news, I was at the gym that morning in midtown Manhattan and it was my day for my weight lifting workout, which means that it was mainly me and a bunch of guys, mostly thirty something men in finance. They had far worse things to say about Spitzer than anything I hear any woman say. I thought it was interesting.

He's a smart guy and I like hearing his opinions, but no matter how you slice it he has some real interpersonal problems. Not a people person, I guess. He was a lousy governor for that reason, although I voted for him and probably would have done so a second time.

  •  so he diagreed so he should be fired (0+ / 0-)

I think the democrats are suffering from irrational exuberance. Biden did well but his demeanor did turn quite a few off.
Biden did what he had to do but his smirking was a minus for him.

  •  Sycophants only? (0+ / 0-)

Really, guys, even a liberal channel can't just go around firing people every time some one differs ever-so-slightly from the party line.

    •  Spitzer doesn't differ 'ever so slightly' (0+ / 0-)

His obvious jealousy that he'll never be President oozes from him.  I admit I don't watch him very much, but I stopped because he would never, ever say one decent thing about the President.

There are ways to criticize that are helpful.  There is destructive criticism that costs us elections.  That's Spitzer.

  •  Current TV (0+ / 0-)

I used to watch Current when Kieth Olbermann was on, but I went back to MSNBC when he left.  Jennifer Granholm is wonderful and a real talent, but she's not Dr Rachel Maddow.  I would expect Granholm to move on to a better venue soon.  Spitzer is a waste of bandwidth as far as I'm concerned.
