I've heard of absentee ballots before, but this is my first election where I'm looking at an absentee incumbent.

Congressman Andy Harris is holding firm on his decision not to participate in any debates before next month's election, unless Wendy Rosen is the one sharing the stage.
I'm still looking for the logical connection between the requirements to get in a presidential debate and a local forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters.
Since John LaFerla, the Maryland Democratic Party's "successor nominee" to the disgraced-and-gone Wendy Rosen, does not have his name printed on the ballot, Maryland 1st District Congressman Andy Harris has cancelled the two scheduled debates between the two candidates.
High pressure affairs like the League of Women Voters' candidate forum, which Harris likened to a presidential candidates' debate for some unfathomable reason.
Somehow, he has drawn the conclusion that state law says you're not a major party's nominee unless your name is on the ballot.
How convenient for one of Congress' most ideologically blinkered, unresponsive electeds. He will provide voters on the Eastern Shore with two "town hall" meetings and a press release saying he's had lots of town hall meetings, plenty, in fact, enough, no, make that "enough for you people."
Frankly, the LWV should have said, "Fine. It happens without you and goes on YouTube. We'll have the empty chair for YOU with YOUR name on it." Andy's attitude is silly; I'm afraid I find it hard to respect an organization that can't cope with arrogance by responding with countervailing humor, and a firm statement that it's not up to him.
