Here are the latest figures out of Iowa.
This report is what I would call "quiet". Apparently there weren't that many people who voted since the last report.
First here are the numbers for the absentee ballot requests:
Dems 192,847 (47.05%)
Reps 124,804 (30.45%)
Inds 91,854 (22.41%)
Oth 368 (negligible)
TOTAL 409,873
Here are the new ballot requests since the last report:
Dems +5,192
Reps +5,370
Inds +3,943
Republicans have held an advantage over Democrats in terms of ballot requests over the last several days, but the overall trend is that the advantage is decreasing. As you can see in this report, the requests are roughly equal from this daily report.
And now, here are the numbers for actual ballots cast:
Dems 115,280 (52.57%)
Reps 62,152 (28.34%)
Inds 41,702 (19.02%)
Oth 163 (negligible)
TOTAL 219,297
Here are the ballots cast since the previous daily report:
Dems +5,227
Reps +4,811
Inds +2,901
These are still good numbers for us. Even to this day, Democratic ballots cast have outnumbered Republican ones on every single day of early voting. In 2008, the final proportions for early voting just before election day were approximately 48% Dem to 29% Rep. Perhaps we won't be in quite as strong a position this year as we were in 2008, but then again, we don't expect to win Iowa by nine or ten points either. I'm still thinking the President takes Iowa by three points, but call me crazy.
