Here's a quick small piece of good news from the Associated Press, Mitt Romney, Republican Party raise a combined $170.4 million in September.
WASHINGTON — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s campaign says it raised $170.4 million in September.
The figure brings Romney’s fundraising effort slightly behind President Barack Obama’s $181 million haul for the month. It leaves Romney, the Republican Party and related groups with $191 million in the bank to spend during the final full month of the campaign.
The campaign says about $43 million of those contributions came from checks of $250 or less, roughly a quarter of the campaign’s September donations.
A few days ago, we heard another bit of good news about the much vaunted Republican advertising blitz is that because of two factors, they are paying higher advertising rates, so apparently are not getting as much bang for their buck, as reported in
Mitt Romney Ad Spending: Candidate And Allies Greatly Outpace Obama As Election Closes.
Although Republicans plan on spending $41.7 this week on advertising compared to $23.5 million for Democrats, more of their ads are purchased by Super Pac which have to pay up to 3 times the low rate the official campaigns qualify for.
And also, because the Romney campaign is apparently buying much of this increase in weekly allotments rather than monthly as we do, they pay more per unit, so it is unclear how much of a real advantage they will have in actual airtime.
