In the last Presidential Debate, the President failed on many levels. He didn't challenge Mitt Romney. He let Romney drift to the center by lying. He lacked passion.
One issue that the President failed to bring up was Women's Rights, the war on contraception, etc. Tonight should be the opportunity to do so. In fact, this is THE opportunity. The next debate will be about Foreign Policy... so tonight is the night. A town hall is perfect to do this. Real voters will ask questions. There will be women there to connect with.
The Key (to me) is to get Mitt to repeat
"I think I've said time and again that I'm a pro-life candidate and I'll be a pro-life president. The actions I'll take immediately is to remove funding for Planned Parenthood."
Now, Mitt may try to retreat from that, as he likes to dance around the issues. But he said that line just 6 days ago. Remember how the Susan Komen For the Cure was ripped for cutting Planned Parenthood funding? Remember how Planned Parenthood's donations surged and Komen's plummeted? The end result, as we know, is that Komen backtracked. The reason for this is that Planned Parenthood matters and is popular.
The "gender gap" isn't a political ploy.. it is real and exists because Republicans have onerous policies that hurt women. The President can remind women that Planned Parenthood provides "primary care" services to women and need. It provides cancer screening. It provides contraception.
In my mind, the Sesame Street contorversy was the wrong fight to pick. Problem is, Obama didn't create an opening in the last debate to expose Mitt's harmful policies to women, so he had to run around the country speaking of Big Bird and Elmo, rather than contraception, equal pay, freedom of choice, and more important issues to women
Anyhow, Mr. President, please use tonight to remind the Americans why you must be President. Don't let Mitt dodge the issues or lie. Make us proud.
