As per a suggestion that I change the diary title, and here is my original which represents my screaming at my computer screen about this though:
YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG!!!!!
I hate to beat a dead horse, and I know that most people have seen or heard about Republican Paul Ryan 'washing clean dishes'.
But, apparently, I am not going to be able to let this thing go for myself until I write my own diary about this.
You see, my current employment finds me actually washing dishes. That is the job for which I get paid money.
I see some people here have talked about how they have volunteered at kitchens washing dishes and how Paul Ryan's photo op is distasteful. But for those of us that actually rely on a pay check by doing this work, I can not stop myself from being infuriated by this.
For anyone who hasn't seen the video, here it is:
This video is iconic of what the Romney / Ryan campaign is all about.
"Hey, we are here to help by doing something that isn't needed that actually turns out to undo all the work of others that came before us" .... Romney/Ryan 2012
I find myself washing dishes for a paycheck for a variety of reasons, and all for which
I am more than happy to take personal responsibility My dish-washing job places me squarely on the side of the
"47%"
Washing dishes is nothing to be ashamed of - It is truly one of the more important jobs at a food service outlet. But it is hard work and often times underpaid, under appreciated and under valued by many who just don't know any better. THIS is what life is like for the majority of the 47% that Romney dismissed so casually.
Make no mistake though - I pay plenty of taxes - Virginia state income tax isn't so forgiving of the 'working poor'. I pay the same taxes on gasoline, food, clothing, and property as anyone that would be making Romney type money.
But let me get back to the photo op.
Republican Paul Ryan walks into a situation where the kitchen has already been cleaned (and the dishes long ago cleaned and sanitized).
If one is going to do a photo op of this, why not at least do it right?
FIRST - Make sure You and Your family WASH YOUR HANDS - remember that sign that we have ALL seen!!!!
Second - now, there are a couple ways to actually set up a three sink compartment, but since You are clearly washing clean dishes, You may as well go ahead and do it the 'right way':
First Sink: Wash (filled with detergent)
Second Sink: Rinse (filled with clean water)
Third Sink: Sanitize (filled with sanitizing solution)
It really is THAT simple - ideally, You want to air dry the dishes afterwords rather than using a towel to dry them - but there are circumstances where You do have to use a clean towel to dry (I NEED THIS MIXING BOWL WASHED AND BACK -- NOW!!!!)
Is it OK that the Ryan campaign went into a clean kitchen and dirtied it up for their photo op? Eh!? It sucks that someone is going to have to go over the kitchen again and clean it AGAIN after everyone leaves.
But the point of the photo op was to show him washing dishes -- and he LITERALLY UNWASHED CLEAN AND SANITIZED DISHES Not only was the photo op 'fake' but it was exactly the opposite of what the campaign was proclaiming it to be.
Which brings me right back around to why I find this photo op so iconic of the Romney/Ryan Campaign!:
"Hey, we are here to help by doing something that isn't needed that actually turns out to undo all the work of others that came before us" .... Romney/Ryan 2012
If they get the simple task of cleaning dishes so wrong, for which Ryan claimed in the video to have experience, what about the more complicated aspects for which they claim experience, say, such as governing and the economy?
