The three Obama/Biden signs that were placed on my morning commute route have disappeared. One at a traffic light and two from someone's front yard. Several Romney signs remain.

I'll head to my OFA office and get replacements for the distant neighbor who lost his/her signs.

This is petty and stupid. You don't see us stealing any of your signs, do you?

How long do you think it will be before we see another YouTube video of one of our signs being shot, like what happened during the Amendment One election:

There is a strong desire to get revenge, but I'll be the better man and leave their numerous signs alone. I guess its not enough to outnumber our signs by 5:1, so some insecure jerk has to take down signs that he/she doesn't like... I've had enough of these rednecks and their juvenile antics.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

"Don't bother" is giving in before the fight even starts.

      Put up those signs proudly.

Surround them with enough dog doo in the grass that anyone who tries to steal a sign is probably going to step in it and track it into their car.

If you want to discourage them further, coat the sign with Vaseline so they get slimed when they touch it (and they won't be able to figure out what it is: just "something icky") and they can't get a grip on it to pull it out of the ground.

Best of all, floodlights triggered by motion sensors and connected to a beeper indoors, so you can catch them in the act.  Your choice of a camera to get their faces, or a firearm to make them put their hands up while you call the police.

The answer to these people is zero tolerance and showing a willingness to fight.

They are cowards: like bullies they will back down when confronted with strength.

"Minus two votes for the Republican" equals "plus one vote for the Democrat." Arithmetic doesn't care about their feelings either!

Is stuff called Dykem  "High Spot Blue".  Its basically a thin vaseline, with very permanent blue dye mixed in.  Its used by machinists to fit parts to very close tolerances.

Its non-toxic, never dries (literature says "months"), and is formulated to transfer on contact.   As mentioned, the blue dye is very long lasting, as in get it on your hands, and wait for the skin to wear away.

You get it at industrial suppliers.  One source.  Wear rubber gloves when applying it, and resist the temptation to scratch your nose.  The blue color should be close to that of the sign.

Back before we exported all the tool and die jobs to Asia, and phones were black, rotary dialed, and corded, its common alternate use was giving the foreman "blue ear syndrome"

    … for a while.

I haven't had one stolen yet, but if I did I'd make use of the Placing a Note near the replacement sign stating that every time a sign is stolen, it will be replaced, meaning more money for the campaign.

  •  We're in full swing in TN (7+ / 0-)

My county's Dem party chair is a gutsy ex-Michgander brave enough to fly a big Obama yard sign all summer, along with signs dissing those who persistently vandalized it. He finally won.

More recently, local GOP operatives have been removing our big Obama signs and USING OUR T-POSTS to hang their candidates' signs. That takes some moxie!

I'm still trying to decide whether to risk a yard sign or not. I'm a woman who lives alone in a fairly isolated spot. I don't want someone damaging my property or hurting my cats when I can't be there to protect the place. Most local supporters are taking the same tack, so almost all our Obama yard signs are going up at intersections and on roadsides. Results fully expected: Obama yard signs removed, Obama yard signs defaced with spray paint. But we ordered lots and lots and lots of Obama yard signs. They steal 'em, we put 'em right back up. Bring it, motherf-ers.

  •  Same problem here (0+ / 0-)

in rural central Virginia. In a generally Democratic county. Lots & lots of Rmoney/Ryan, Allen & Hurt signs, large ones, undisturbed. Large and small Obama signs are either stolen or destroyed.

I know I read somewhere several years ago about methods to deter this destruction, but can't find it now.

    Open to suggestions from anyone!

I brought my neighbor two new signs yesterday after I noticed hers was missing. She boards and fosters lots of dogs and plans to surround her new sign with dog poop!

Put a note on the signs that says "Every time this sign is stolen $_ will be donated to OFA.  The campaign thanks you for stealing this sign!"

      Then do it.

  •  I've lost two signs here in Colorado. (1+ / 0-)

On my third--it's been up about five days.  Absolutely surrounded by R/R signs--I think there are three of us in an entire subdivision (in deep red Douglas County) who have Obama signs out. Mine seem to be the only ones stolen. But 75% of this county votes by mail--and the ballots are on their way, should arrive today. And then I get to cast my solid Democratic ballot--the first was for LBJ.

Two days ago I was surprised and pleased to see an Obama/Biden side on the roadside a few miles from my house. Saw it again yesterday. Smiled.

    Today: sign gone. Disgusting.

  •  Ideas (0+ / 0-)

Paint some rat traps flat black and hide them on the sign.

Put a motion sensor activated water sprinkler nearby to give the thief a spray.

Rig a blind where you can hide with a good flash camera to get their license plate number and them in the act of the theft.  Blind them with flood lights while you're shooting them.  If you're in one of those shoot to kill states, just shoot the asshole.

I'd run the hot wire of a bare electrician cord on one side and the bare neutral wire on the other side.  Put danger-high-voltage signs in front of the Obama sign and have the trash haulers on speed dial, cuz you'll probably kill the asshole.

  •  Town looks like it threw up Romney signs (1+ / 0-)

It's so maddening to see a sea of Romney signage, bumper stickers, and for complete strangers to talk to me about how bad Obama is for America. The town, nay, HELLHOLE we currently live in is over 90% conservative leaning, voting, breathing, worshiping, bullshitting.

Anyway, I've been trying to come up with something to put around the sign to deter conservative fucks from stealing my Obama signs. Maybe cover it in truths? Truth is always a conservative deterrent :)

Neighbors to our left and right all have Romney signs, we deserve a voice, too!

is trying to sell off, "Obama Ya'll" yard signs. If that's all there were to display from the Obama team I'd have to pay people to take it from my yard. WTF?! haha
