This will be a short diary, but I hope there are more like it. There is a good chance that the election will be decided between 10:31 and 12:00 midnight tonight. I believe Obama will do very well tonight but I also believe the Republicans are poised to set the narrative the second the debate ends. They are very good at this - remember Al Gore's sighs. Gore won that debate hands down. They tried to do it again with Biden. I was watching MSNBC and the second it ended Steve Schmidt brought up Biden's facial expressions as a defining issue. I did not think about it then, but switching around the channels every conservative was setting the same narrative about facial expressions. This happened too quickly and was too coordinated to be a coincidence. They determined what the narrative would be and stayed with it for days (are still talking about it). No wavering at all - a complete blitzkrieg. The only thing that save Biden from Gore's fate was major push back across social media and the Internet.
The conservative propogandists control the news shows, they have for years. What do we have? The odious Ed Schultz? Please. But we control the Internet. The conservatives know the stakes in this debate and they will move quickly no matter what happen. They will have a well formed narrative within minutes. Every conservative pundit will be saying the same thing as if they just thought of it at the moment. But the progressives control the Internet, we know how to use it, we know how to make it work for us. But we must match them to the second. So hit the Internet like there is no tomorrow.
Four possible strategies
Fact check quickly, through links using Twitter (other media are too slow).
Create Obama friendly narratives across the Internet using blogs. Keep commenting on each other and agreeing with each other so voices grow quickly.
Mock pro-Romney narratives set by the pundits on television.
Find the best tweets and posts and add them to your news feed. Find an especially strong Obama narrative and set it as your status.
