When Mitt launched into his praise of two-parent families, I began to wince.
Sure, in some pie in the sky world, it's a good thing. But this isn't that world. Just checked the statistic:
USA: Percent children in single parent households: 35%.
So, tonight Romney just told 35% of Americans that they're failures, because they're not raising their families the Right Way. His way.
Oops.
I hope that advertisers, bloggers and/or people in the Obama campaign make some hay of this. (Hop the tangled hoop.)
I don't think the majority of single people in this country will exactly embrace the concept that they should run out and find a mate. Speaking for myself, someone asked me recently about my ex-husband, and I said that he'd been gone 10 years, and I was STILL glad he was gone.
I get that this was no doubt a dog-whistle shout-out to Mormons and other highly-religious folk who Romney considers to be in his "base." But, I would highly doubt that the majority of the actual single parents were thrilled to hear this.
What do you think?
