Sunny and warm.

Itzl AlertingAs you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here.  We care!

If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.

I spent last night checking out a potential new site for OctopodiCon (you just thought I was done talking about OctopodiCon).  It's in another city, but still less than an hour's drive away, provides free shuttle service from the airport (sadly, it's also farther from the airport), and is suitable in almost every way.

There are a few down sides and we may be able to work through those.

There are a great many upsides, including that it will cost us 2/5 of what we paid for the last venue.

So we'll see what the bid says and go from there.

Add keywords that describe this diary. Separate multiple keywords with commas.
Tagging tips - Search For Tags - Browse For Tags

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

You can add a private note to this diary when hotlisting it:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from your hotlist?
Are you sure you want to remove your recommendation? You can only recommend a diary once, so you will not be able to re-recommend it afterwards.
Rescue this diary, and add a note:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary from Rescue?
Choose where to republish this diary. The diary will be added to the queue for that group. Publish it from the queue to make it appear.

You must be a member of a group to use this feature.

Add a quick update to your diary without changing the diary itself:
Are you sure you want to remove this diary?
(The diary will be removed from the site and returned to your drafts for further editing.)
(The diary will be removed.)
Are you sure you want to save these changes to the published diary?

It's a beautiful morning in Chicago.  Warm and sunny, although it's supposed to rain this afternoon.

Going to meet a friend for breakfast, and grocery shopping.

    Have a great day.

I am a work in progress. Still.

It's cool and cloudy here in Dallas.   I have a big day planned... my dissertation research proposal was passed yesterday (they liked it) and I need to start getting the rest of the paperwork going.

What had me thoughtful for the rest of the day is that all the professors referred to my tangental thoughts and observations as "answering and researching that will be part of your life's work."

It's something that I never considered-- this degree grants me a "life's work"; a mandate.

Feeling thoughtful and determined to go forward.

      I'm so happy for you!

And yes, what you proposed is indeed a life's work of research and study.  What you're doing for your doctoral is just the tip of the iceberg. Your dissertation is not the culmination of what you've learned so far, but a springboard into your future.

Finger Lakes.  I have some baby peach trees to re-pot and protect from winter and Bambi.  This morning I realized I have the perfect spot, so now I can proceed with the digging!

Going to be damp, rainy and a bit cooler here today. They're calling for rain (and I can see it on the radar rolling in off the west coast), and temperatures are supposed to stay just under 80. This is good for my electric bill. My shoulder hurts more than it did yesterday however LOL. Give and take I guess.

Dad and Bit are watching a recording of the debate right now, where he can pause it and explain things she doesn't understand. The boy and I watched it last night live. Of course I missed some bits I think because Draco was busily yelling at Mitt Romney for his disrespect of the President.

Noddy: Yay for venue shopping! With the success this year maybe you can get the two places competing and get a better deal!

in Albuquerque. Temps predicted to get down to the upper 30s tonight (brrr!) but then we'll be back up to high temps in the 80s by Friday.

All of which means I'll have a hard time deciding when to schedule my swamp-cooler shutdown/furnace start-up! So I'll keep using my electric heater and supplemental gas stove for a while longer ...

rain, apparently. wow, back yard grass is starting to green up with just 3 days of rain!

gotta hustle on the last wood-work project, the finish won't set below 50 degrees! but it only takes 8 hrs to dry enough for the next coat, so we should be able to manage by getting each coat on as early in the day as possible, & proceed w one coat/day!

catalpa leaves are starting to get washed off the tree... time to get netting over the water feature so it doesn't fill up with leaves! among other things, 8-)
