I finally saw my first John Kline ad on Tuesday Oct 16th. I saw it repeated on a couple of the local TV stations.
I get the sense that Representative Kline is 3 weeks away from the election and he is not ready to start his campaign yet. He refuses to debate his opponent. He runs away from meeting with local newspaper endorsing committees.
Finally we get to see his first ad of the year.
If I were John Kline, I don't think I would use the Metrodome as my backdrop. And here is why.
I think the Metrodome is the PERFECT METAPHOR for Congressman Kline.
Imagine a person or place that has been around for too long, where many bright people got together to decide to replace it with something better.
This is the Metrodome, due to be demolished in 2014 to make room for a sparkling "People's Stadium"
I remember my first visit as a kid to the Metrodome. My excitement as a kid was suddenly dashed when I saw the bland interior. The blue plastic seats were boring.
The stands on the right field land had been pushed back and folded up, so that right field patrons couldn't see anything hit to right field. The interior was dark with a grey ceiling.
I do have some very fond memories of the Metrodome, including attending 3 World Series games, a Final Four, Vikings playoff games, and meeting Pele. I have also gotten the opportunity to officiate games on the astroturf.
With my memories aside, here is where the Metrodome and Congressman Kline come together:
*Both need to replaced with something new
*The Metrodome collapsed, while the economy collapsed under Kline and Bush.
*Due to small concourses, gridlock ensues after a game. Kline has supported congressional gridlock.
*Women have too few restroom facilities, Kline voted against equal treatment for women in the work place.
*People wait during halftime plus the 3rd quarter to stand in line for food, while under Kline and Romney, people will wait for hours in the Emergency Room for routine medical treatment.
*The Vikings and Twins were last in revenue, Kline doesn't think we need revenue.
*The original field material was made of Astroturf. Kline has received support from astroturfing tea party members.
Mike Obermueller is running against John Kline, Mike is working hard trying to pull the upset. In the last month, he matched John Kline dollar for dollar in fundraising and recently picked up a local newspaper endorsement. (Sun Newspapers).
Meanwhile Mike has a very funny TV ad getting lots of play on local airwaves.
