another birthday...
meh...
pretty much a non-event except now I get free coffee at McDonalds...
whatever...
but then it happened...
I got a surprise birthday present today...
More below the orange boudin kolache of equality.
I had the chance to speak with a friend of mine today.
He didn't even mention my birthday. I don't think he even remembered. We just had a phone conversation and he gave me a great present.
We spoke for several minutes about careers, retirement, and life in general.
I suggested to him that he must be overwhelmed with the campaign ads since he lives in North Carolina. ya' know swing state and all.... not many ads here in Texas since we're pretty red.
He said, "You know, I'm pretty republican".
I knew that from the days we worked together in Kansas. Seems like everyone is a republican in Kansas. And Kansas Republicans are not "pretty" republican, they are "VERY" republican
He continued, "but I have to tell you, I'm having trouble this year. I just can't vote for Romney. He is such a salesman. You know I'm not an Obama fan, but he inherited this mess and has done a good job, so I'm going to vote for him this time."
As my momma says, you coulda knocked me over with a feather.
It was the best birthday present I've had today (so far.... but I'm expecting big things from the husband/partner/roommate when he gets home today... like a binder full of drag queens, but we'll see..)
This race is going to be close, but don't think that Romney's bullshit moves are invisible to the moderates and independents. They see him for what he is, a bullshit artiste extraordinaire. And many are either voting for President Obama or they are staying home. They just can't stomach the opportunist. Willard gives them the creeps.
Early voting opens here in Texas next week...
Please help make my birthday wish come true... We gotta get out the vote!
Oh well, I'll get back to work again tomorrow... I'm off to have a glass of champagne and celebrate! I get the senior discount at Kroger and I have already received a great present! And even though it's only one vote in one state, it still is a great present to get me motivated to work just a little harder to help win this thing.
Let's make this embarrassing for the republicans... It's time to relegate them to the dustbin of failed political experiments.
Peace... oh yea, and Happy Birthday to Me!
