The Huffington Post is reporting that Joe Walsh said that there should be no "life of the mother" exception for abortion because " "with modern technology and science, you can't find one instance" of pregnancy threatening the life of a woman.
This is yet another example of why I cannot fathom being a Republican or supporting them. Even if you're a conservative. These are not true conservatives, they are big government activists who want to make your most personal decisions for you. Especially for you ladies and your lady parts.
You see, on abortion, Walsh states that there should be no exception for life of the mother because "with modern technology and science you can't find one instance" in which a woman would actually die. That's fatally false. "Modern technology and science" gives us computers and Google which would prove Walsh unequivocally and dangerously wrong in just seconds.
Yet even with all the controversy Republicans have generated about "legitimate" rape and women's bodies being able to shut things down, Walsh doesn't even bother to check this before he publicly states there isn't "one instance". So we know he doesn't bother with facts.
Joe, ever hear of Ectopic Pregnancy? The pregnancy occurs outside the womb. The fetus cannot survive. The woman could die. A recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found there were nearly 900 deaths caused by ectopic pregnancies between 1980 and 2007.
But worse, Walsh and those like him legislate for the rest of us based on their ignorant, false beliefs. If he had his way, he would be condemning women to death based on his own ignorance and his professed belief in the sanctity of life.
And so it is with so many issues that profoundly affect us all. They legislate from their positions of reckless, inexcusable and willful ignorance on the critical issues facing our country and even the planet to the point of killing us. Climate change. Health care. Economics. Science. Education. Everything.
Yet half the country votes for these rubes. Because climate change is a hoax. Women's bodies shut down pregnancies after "forcible" rapes. Tax cuts for the rich pay for themselves. Women never die as a result of pregnancy.
Perhaps the biggest myth is the one Republicans tell themselves when they vote Republican; that no one will die or suffer as a result of their patriotic, pro-life vote.
