I voted today...line was long, wait was about 1 hour.
Yesterday was the first day of in-person early voting in North Carolina. So how did we do compared to 2008? See below the squiggle.
Total votes:
2008: 176,852
2012: 223,385
Party affiliation:
2008: 52% D; 32% R
2012: 47% D; 35% R
(Note: registration is 43% D; 31% R, so the 12-point spread is exactly equal).
Gender:
2008: 56% F; 43% M
2012: 55% F; 44% M
Race:
2008: 70% W; 26% B
2012: 69% W: 27% B
The Dem/Rep spread has narrowed after the first day this year; but African American enthusiasm certainly hasn't waned.
UPDATE: Here are the final 2008 NC early voting numbers:
Total votes: 2,618,419
Party affiliation: 52D; 30R
Gender: 56F; 43M
Race: 69 W; 27 B
