This is either a request for explanation and, if that explanation is lacking, a very good reason to squint hard at Gallup.
I don't know where Gallup's recent internals are. I've searched their labyrinthine site to no avail. If someone knows the path, guidance is appreciated. But I do know where 538 is, and read Nate's piece yesterday on the gender gap in polling.
In his "Gender Gap in Recent Polls" table he states that Gallup (in their registered voter poll) has Obama +12 with women, and Romney +6 with men. And yet their total RV poll results yesterday were Romney 49%, Obama 46%.
How is this possible? We all know more women vote than men (53% to 47% in 2008). But even if that were a 50-50 split, this points to a clear lead for Obama.
There are two options: either Gallup are severely overweighting men. Or Nate got the numbers backward.
