David Nir highlighted this and is taking credit for the trap Dick Mourdock (R) has put himself in. As we all know, Mourdock's idea of bipartisanship is Democrats caving to all of the Republicans' demands. His opponent, Congressman Joe Donnelly (D) has been hitting Tea Party Dick pretty hard over that statement painting Mourdock as a polarizing extremist. Nir jokingly offered advice to Mourdock to name one Democrat Mourdock could work with to make himself look sane. And Mourdock fell for it by claiming that conservative Democrat, Senator Joe Manchin (D. WV), would be the Democrat he could see himself working with. Well that's nice to hear except Manchin sees himself working more with Donnelly than a Tea Party extremist in the Senate hence why Manchin has endorsed Donnelly:

“I appreciate Mr. Mourdock mentioning me as a Democrat who he can work with, but as a Senator, you’ve got to be able to reach out to all 99 of your colleagues — because we must put America first. One person isn’t enough,” Manchin said in a statement.
“That’s why I strongly support Joe Donnelly, who has continually shown that he has the temperament and good judgment to reach across party lines to truly put our country before politics. As someone with a bipartisan approach, I can tell you we need more people like Joe Donnelly if we’re going to fix our country for the next generation,” he added. - The Daily Caller, 10/22/12
This is probably the face Dick Mourdock made after hearing about Manchin's endorsement:

Tea Party backed Super PACs are pouring money into this race and Mitt Romney, who's trying to campaign as "Moderate Mitt" just appeared in an ad endorsing the Tea Party extremist as a last attempt to woo over angry Dick Lugar supporters:
Not sure convincing voters you're a down-to-earth centrist who endorses a Tea Party extremist is a good play there, Mittens. Lets not forget that during the Town Hall debate, you bragged about working with across party lines with Democrats as Governor as Massachusetts and you're endorsing a guy who has quite the opposite viewpoint.
Indiana is in the bag for Romney but Hoosiers aren't sold yet on Tea Party Dick Mourdock. Donnelly has been endorsed by the AFL-CIO and has a great track record fighting for the middle-class and small businesses. Send someone who truly understands what bipartisanship is all about. Donate to Donnelly's campaign:
