OK, is this my tv set or is Obama's mike set lower and does it have a slight echo that is missing from Romney's mike and from Schieffer's?

This may just be my tv or my imagination.

But I have read about the media doing this, especially Fox, in order to downplay certain speakers.  Or to promote other speakers and make them seem more powerful.

If this is my imagination, fine.

UPDATE:

Did have trouble with my dvr tongiht; had to reboot it and it took about 1/2 hr. to get it record the debates.  Obama's voice sounds more muffled.... so maybe there is some technical glitch on my system.  Glad its not on anyone else's system, Tx for the feedback.

Tue Oct 23, 2012 at  7:09 AM PT: UPDATE 2:

Well, it seems as though I am not the only one who noticed the drop in Obama's voice.  Glad I wasn't the only one.  Tech glitches, probs with sound mixing; whatever.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

try another channel to see if the sound problem follows it.  I noticed during the TBS coverage of the ALCS that echo you're talking about (defect of my cable system and TBS).  It can be a problem with the channel you're watching.

    •  Obama's voice is more "mid" sounding, around 1k (1+ / 0-)

I would say. Mitt's is more full bodied with a much bigger low end sound in the 250hz range.

Sounds like the high and low EQ on Obama's mic. has been pulled down. It gives Obama's voice a hollow sound compared to Mitt. Volume level is the same. It is just the quality of sound is much different.

Unless there is a feedback problem I do not see any reason they would attenuate Obama's voice like that.

... with high end stereo speakers and there was no doubt that Obama's voice was different when he was facing to his right than when he was facing forward or to the left.  There were times when his answers were much more muted when he faced forward.  I noticed it throughout the debate.  We watched the debate on CNN, for a sanity check switched over to NBC and they had the same sound issues.  Furthermore, I could hear the same issue in replays, so whatever it was - was captured during the event.
