That's what the Catholic groups that keep sending me HATE mail claim. I got home today, only to see a "Voter Guide" from the Catholics (every person they order you to vote for is a Republican) AND a letter claiming, in BOLD RED print that gay marriage would be the "End of the Human Race". There was a "?" after the statement, as though they're trying to appeal to those of us who aren't completely nuts yet. Anyways, I take down the entire bigoted organization in the video after the break ...

Ever notice how often we hear about Catholic Bashing and how little we hear about Catholics Bashing? When they lash out and attack an entire community (this time, the gay community), the media rarely says shit. Well, I'm not the media. And, in episode 4 of "Tales from the Basement" I have a LOT to say regarding these law-breaking bigots and the HATE mail they keep sending me! Vote no, Minnesota!

Is the letter I read from the Catholics in the video

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I mention this in the video, but please view it at anything OTHER THAN 480p. For some reason at 480p, it's all yellow, like someone peed on the camera. It looks fine at 240, 360 and 720p.

But if you like yellow? Go crazy at 480p!

there's no poll of Catholics showing them believing all this. This is just the out of touch bishops, not the laity.

It's been a non-stop barrage of hatred, here. And every Catholic church has been required to post "Vote Yes" signs in visible areas. They're even sending "Vote Yes" brochures pamphlets homes with innocent children that attend Catholic school.

It was too much for my mom -- a lifelong Catholic (she's 66) -- she wrote this letter to are head Bishop dude:

I am in such sadness over the stance and actions of Archbishop Nienstedt. It is in every way contradictory to the teachings of Jesus. Spending all of our money fighting for this amendment (never mind that MN has a law against same sex marriage already) instead of helping those in need, is atrocious. Should Communion be given to someone who ignores the message to feed the hungry..." This is political, political, political! How do you have the right to impose your views on everyone else? This is an abuse of power. My father was a Deacon. I attended Catholic school and loved my religion. I hung on as long as I could but finally can not take part in this hateful church and will worship God through my own personal relationship with Him. Certainly I can not give money to a church that uses it fight same sex marriage. This Church has it's own horrific sins to atone and pay for before judging others.
That was so devastating to me. The church meant everything to her! And she's been miserable and depressed ever since this crap started.

who are closeted gay/bisexual. Pure straights would never understand how gay rights could tempt people into being gay themselves because they never feel that temptation! Only people who already have such tendencies could be swayed. So when you see "gay marriage is a threat to straight marriage", it's obvious where that's coming from.

If you did, you understand. If you didn't, it's impossible to even guess how bad it's gotten. And the barrage of HATE we're getting in Minnesota. In our mailboxes. Almost every day.

The vid is actually the diary. I don't know how to embed a video into a diary here, so I had to just do the link. But please take the 15 minutes to watch it (or at the very least, listen -- I read the entire letter). Thanks!

The haters started running these TV ads about how those big gay-loving meanies have persecuted decent hate-filled folks in states where same-sex marriage has been "imposed", running down a list (I suppose I should call it a litany given the RC element) of supposed oppressive measures, like "charities forced to shut down" and parents not being allowed to take their kids out of school to avoid hearing about Teh Gay in class....Well, to their credit, at least 2 local news outlets (MPR and WCCO) promptly stepped up to point out how full of shit the hatey ad is. Perhaps others have too, but those are the ones I happened to catch. It gave me some pride in the local media. I'm still pretty worried about both of the amendments on the ballot, though.

As a Lutheran, apparently I'm not on the bishops' mailing list. I am, though, a former resident of Michele Bachmann's district, and that of State Senator Mary Kiffmeyer. As a one-term Secretary of State, Kiffmeyer attempted to reverse years of hard work by her predecessors in building Minnesota voter turnout, and warned about rampant voter fraud, which she could never demonstrate. I was a casual friend of Kiffmeyer and a coworker with her husband. My girlfriend's son & his inlaws are members of Bachmann's former church. These people are personally among the nicest you'd ever hope to know, while working publicly for the destruction of core American values. It is an incomprehensible paradox. Best wishes to your mother.

But my writing group at church recently discussed this. Our church in St. Paul has a People of Faith Vote No banner. Our understanding was that promoting a policy is OK legally, but actually telling people which candidate to vote for violates federal law. Is this correct? If so, how is the Minn. diocese getting away with mailing info like that?

I drive the length of Summit Ave in St. Paul several times a week, & I'm always cheered by the Obama signs & Vote No Twice signs. The Romney signs are few & far between, & I only started seeing the majority of this this month.

    Is the law...

If only same sex marriage was legal, I'd dump my wife in  a heartbeat, and finally be able to have that gay relationship I've always ( secretly ) dreamed of.

And Catholics know EVERYONE feels that way.

    Secretly, of course.

    C'mon - Admit it!!!
