Westminster Maryland
Sometimes the action is the controversy and sometimes it’s the picture.
As the Light Brigade Maryland (LBM) group stood on the sidewalk on the bridge over local Rte 27 (AKA Railroad Ave.) someone noticed that there was more traffic passing behind the group on the bridge than on the road below. The decision was made to move back up the sidewalk in front of the nearby shopping center and face the busier road.
There were two different photographers with LBM that chilly October Saturday night. Someone in the group suggested they pose with the nearby chicken restaurant in the background. As titillation and excitement passed through the Brigade that night, another suggested a bolder photographic statement, “Let’s just pose directly in front of the store.”
The resulting photograph was later posted on the group's Facebook page and within three days nearly 3,000 people had clicked on the image. Many had “shared the image with their friends.
Light Brigade Maryland’s effort is not to simply titillate and sully the name of the source of “the chicken sandwich controversy.” LBM’s goal is to get voters in Maryland to vote for “Fairness & Equality.”
"Our goal," said June Horner, a long time PFLAG mom and activist, "is to get everyone to vote for question 6."
LBM’s goal is to try to debunk some of the misinformation coming out of the opposition to question 6’s camp.
You can help spread the word and generate the buzz about “One Million Conversations” in support of QUESTION 6 in Maryland by going to Facebook, “Liking” Light Brigade Maryland and sharing this photo with all your friends.
Let’s come together as a community of allies for the LGBTQ Community and make Maryland the first State to ratify a marriage equality law by referendum.
If we do this those opposed to the civil rights of LGBTQ people will never again be able to say “Gay Marriage has ALWAYS been knocked down at the polls. This is the first step in knocking the wind out of their sails. Please join Light Brigade Maryland in their effort to win Marriage Equality in Maryland.
