Elizabeth Warren on her way to the Senate.
There's absolutely no question that Elizabeth Warren has the momentum in the Massachusetts Senate race. For the past six weeks, she's been leading most polls, and today one of the polls she hadn't led previously has flipped for her. MassINC Polling Group polled for Boston's WBUR and finds a "meaningful change" in the race.
BOSTON — A WBUR poll of 516 likely Massachusetts voters [...] finds Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren leading Republican U.S. Sen Scott Brown, 48 percent to 43 percent. [...]
The last time pollster Steve Koczela surveyed voters for WBUR earlier this month, he found Brown ahead by four points.
“The last poll that we did happened to coincide with would have to be described as the worst week of the entire campaign for Democrats,” Koczela said. “It was right after the first presidential debate, where President Obama gave what would have to be described as a pretty lackluster performance.
“When you go from a four-point lead for one candidate to a five-point lead for another candidate, it is a meaningful change, definitely,” Koczela said.
Just seven percent are undecided on the Senate race. Warren is solidifying her lead with women, now at 52-39 and making inroads with men. Brown's lead with men has dropped to 44-42. Brown's favorable/unfavorable rating is also changing to his detriment, from 54/31 percent at the beginning of the month to 49/38 now. The poll was conducted Oct. 21-22, after the absolute disaster Brown foisted on himself last week. Those kinds of unforced errors show Brown's nerves as he sees this race slipping away, which only compounds his problems.
President Obama has a 20-point lead over Romney in this poll, 56-36. Between his lead and likely coattails, as well as Warren's continuing momentum, Massachusetts is looking better every day.
