Any regular Rush Limbaugh listener will remember Rush telling them for weeks and possibly months that not only would it be no big deal if the debt ceiling wasn't raised, it would force Obama to make the cuts the Tea Party wanted.
That went along with months of chest thumping Republican and Tea Party drivel about how the black president would be irresponsible to borrow more money, regardless of how many times Ronald Reagan and the Bushes did it.
And recently I heard Limbaugh blame President Obama for the US credit downgrade. I guess that's because Democrats had the gaul to want higher taxes on the millionaires and billionaires and wouldn't give Republicans like Paul Ryan everything they wanted.
The word 'sequestration' is a common word on GOP talk radio now and in the last presidential debate Mitt Romney blamed Obama for it. The President claimed it wasn't going to happen. Maybe, but it is an election issue and it's possible that in many races Democrats are being blamed for future manditory cuts in defense spending because they voted for it- like Paul Ryan. Democrats and Republicans should be thanking or blaming Limbaugh for sequestration.
When evaluating Limbaugh's responsibility for the credit downgrade and other economic effects of the Republican decision to play chicken with the debt ceiling deadline, consider that Limbaugh has a say in all major political issues. Theoretically he had three choices. He could be for it, against it, or both. What would have had happened if Limbaugh warned the Tea Party Republicans of the dangers of default and told them they were being stupid? It wouldn't have happened.
Instead, he was their main enabler. He filled their sails with his hot wind. He should get a big share of the 'credit' in any debate on the subject of sequestration and mandatory military cuts.
