I logged in this morning thinking that Sandy would be high on the rec list. This looks to be scary stuff, and scary timing -- and I'm not just talking about how it could ruin Halloween. I think it also has the potential be very important for the election.
I'll let weatherdude fill in on the dynamics and predictions, but what I've seen looks scary. I wanted to make sure this is flagged here. Remember how abysmally the initial response to Katrina was and what damage that did Bush? I actually generally have confidence in the competence of the Obama administration, though I do think much of the response is outside the ability of the President to handle. But I also know the level of distraction right now.
So here are some things I think would be worthy of consideration:
1) If I was Obama I'd be tracking this very closely and prepare to call off campaigning for a day or two if the situation warrants it. Hope Romney would choose to do likewise, but it if he doesn't that tells folks a lot too.
2) I think OFA should prepare for this as well, give canvassing volunteers information they can hand out about storm prep as well where that seems to be a good idea.
I know that if/when I knock on doors in Virginia this weekend I'll be mentioning it in conversation. "Hey, did you see that? Are you ready?" I'll also ask, "How many once in a century storms do we need to have in a decade before we think that something serious is going on? How can the Republicans keep denying climate change?"
Anyway, that's my pre-caffeine two cents. The floor is yours. Are you aware of the storm? What do you think?
