The accident's initial reports are below. For updates, see after the break.

This is from the local ABC affiliate in Las Vegas:

Senator Harry Reid was hospitalized after a crash on Interstate 15 Friday.

The crash happened just after 1 p.m. on I-15 northbound near Sahara, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Multiple cars were involved in the crash, including four cars in Senator Reid's caravan. Two other cars outside of the caravan were involved.

The extent of Reid's injuries were not immediately clear.

This is from the Las Vegas Review Journal, which reports Reid was taken to the emergency room (though there are some reports he walked himself in):
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., was taken to the emergency room at University Medical Center in Las Vegas Friday afternoon following a traffic accident.

Nevada Highway Patrol said his caravan was involved in a six-car accident about 1 p.m. on northbound Interstate 15 at Sahara Avenue. Four of the cars were with Reid's caravan.

There was no immediate word on injuries.

Please, let us have Harry in our thoughts and hearts at this moment. I will update below the break if/when there is more information.

Updates:

7:03 - A statement has been released by Harry Reid's office:
"Senator Reid and his security detail were involved in a traffic accident today on Interstate 15 in Las Vegas. Senator Reid was taken to University Medical Center Hospital by his security detail as a precaution, and walked in on his own. Senator Reid was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the accident. He experienced rib and hip contusions and has been cleared for release by the doctors. Mrs. Reid was not in the car at the time of the accident. Some of Senator Reid's detail and a staffer had minor injuries in the accident and were evaluated at UMC."
5:53 - CNN has confirmed local affiliates' reports that Reid is in good condition and will be held for further evaluation. This is tremendous news. I will update later if there is anything more than needs to be clarified about his condition.
A spokeswoman for the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Karen Gordon, said Reid was in good condition after the accident, which occurred as his caravan of four vehicles was traveling northbound on Interstate 15. She said he would remain in the hospital for further evaluations Friday afternoon.
5:44 - Finally, we have word from UMC, where Reid was taken, via the local Fox affiliate:
An official at UMC said Reid was in good condition after the incident. The hospital, though, did not disclose any specific injuries.
5:40 - This from theLas Vegas Sun, with no new confirmed info:
A source close to Reid's family said, "He's OK." The senator apparently had no visible injuries but was transported by a staff member to the hospital as a matter of caution.
5:30 - The LVRJ is now reporting minor rib injuries.
5:25 - There are reports that Reid's staffers have told media the Senator is fine, and that he walked himself to the emergency room. However, nothing has been confirmed about his actual status.
5:08 - Adam Nagourney with more information:
5:02 - Let's hope this Tweet from Andrew at Buzzfeed via Adam Nagourney is accurate:

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
