Americans do have standards and values so when viewing TV/cable these standards should be respected. We shouldn't be spoon fed frank, fanatical racism without being called out for what it is. John Sununu is free to be a fanatical bigot, belligerently so, if he wishes, in the same way passersby are free to speak at the risk of their profanity being over heard. To a point. However, whenever John Sununu speaks on the air or to the public his racism should be called out. Since Sununu is deployed by Mitt Romney to appeal to the basist of the Republican base, to convey Romney's messaging, Mitt Romney should be called out too.

Here is only the latest in a legacy of Sununu's insulting Americans with no diect objections or rebukes.

Here's Sununu brutishly calling the President "lazy".

Mitt Romney knows that Sununu has a history of integrity problems but uses him as a spokeman anyway. This is Romney's character!

Time magazine dubbed Sununu "Bush's Bad Cop" on the front cover on May 21, 1990.[9]

At the recommendation of George W. Bush,[10] Sununu resigned his White House post on December 4, 1991.[11][12]...

Sununu angered some when he was the only governor of a U.S. state not to call for repeal of the controversial UN General Assembly Resolution 3379 ("Zionism is Racism"). He later reversed his position on this issue and supported the Republicans' pro-Israel 1988 platform.[13]

As White House Chief of Staff, Sununu reportedly took personal trips, for skiing and other purposes, and classified them as official, for purposes such as conservation or promoting the Thousand Points of Light.[17] The Washington Post wrote that Sununu's jets "took him to fat-cat Republican fund-raisers, ski lodges, golf resorts and even his dentist in Boston."[17] Sununu had paid the government only $892 for his more than $615,000 worth of military jet travel.[18] Sununu said that his use of the jets was necessary because he had to be near a telephone at all times for reasons of national security.[19] Sununu became the subject of much late-night television humor over the incident.[17] Sununu worsened the situation shortly afterwards when, after leaking rumors of financial difficulties in his family, he traveled to a rare stamp auction at Christie's auction house in New York City from Washington in a government limousine, spending $5,000 on rare stamps.[20] Sununu then sent the car and driver back to Washington unoccupied while he returned on a corporate jet.[20] In the course of one week, 45 newspapers ran editorials on Sununu, nearly all of them critical of his actions.[21]

Sununu repaid over $47,000 to the government for the flights on the orders of White House counsel C. Boyden Gray, with the help of the Republican Party.[22] However, the reimbursements were at commercial rates, which are about one-tenth the cost of the actual flights; one ski trip to Vail, Colorado alone had cost taxpayers $86,330.

John Sununu is a racist. Anyone who gives this piggish speaker a mic without saying so is complicit.

Birds of a feather...

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

    sad to say.

I'm a staunch Obama supporter and I'm African-American.  I've run into plenty of people, on this blog and elsewhere, who think I'm supporting him because of race.

Unfortunately, this dismissive, patronizing attitude is all too prevalent.

    Have you googled Romney today?

More than 20 years later John Sununu is still trying to make amends with the Flat Earth Society for his role in getting David Souter appointed to the Supreme Court.

It's sad to watch, really, but there you are.

  •  Ever time I see Sununu (0+ / 0-)

I think of his roasting fat warthog self in a pit filled with banana leaves and me sipping some rum out of a pineapple while in a hammock.

I have no idea why. He screams 'luau'. I've never been to Hawaii and I don't drink. Weird.

Fortunately, he crawls back under his rock between elections so we don't have to deal with him. Yes, he is a racist, but frankly, I thought his Powell remarks were not nearly as racist as his commentary prior to the second debate about the President being incapable of performing better than he did in the first debate because he "is just not very bright", the implication being that he is a product of affirmative action.

  •  You've Got To Love The Old White Guys! (0+ / 0-)

I'm so glad for this diary.  When I got off the floor laughing I started counting all of the old white guys that have tried to make race an issue since 2008.  I've since stopped counting and started over.  Now I'm counting DUMB old white guys.

On 911 I turned to my son in tears and said that the America I knew had ended, and the America he would come to know is the one I've spent all of my years fighting against.
