For any of you who live in California's 49th Congressional District, in California or elsewhere and want to see Rep. Darrell Issa booted out of office after his handling of the hearings on the Fast & Furious fiasco (grilling U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder) and contraception (denying Sandra Fluke the chance to testify) as House Oversight & Government Reform Committee Chairman, you have the opportunity to channel your frustrations by participating in a phone bank TOMORROW for Jerry Tetalman's campaign.  In case any of you are not familiar, Tetalman is the Democrat who is challenging Darrell Issa.  He has strong progressive beliefs and credentials although it is evident that his campaign operations and cash are not anywhere near Issa's network and war chest.

The details of the phone bank event are as follows (per Jerry Tetalman's website):

Phone Bank -- Calling All Voters!

October 28, 2012 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Event Length:  3 Hours

Help us reach out to voters to spread the word about Jerry's campaign to bring a sensible, progressive voice to Congress to represent the 49th District. Please bring your cell phone and charger.

Tetalman Headquarters
390 Oak Ave.
Carlsbad CA, 92008

If the phone bank is too busy and you guys need other opportunities, I wouldn't hesitate to ask the Tetalman campaign to see if there's anything else you can do to help (i.e. canvassing, honk & wave campaigning, letter writing to newspapers, contacting MSNBC people like Ed Schultz and Lawrence O'Donnell, etc.)

Now the question you should be asking isn't "Oh Jerry Tetalman can't win" or "The district is too Safe Red for me to try" but "What can I do to help?" or "Why not?"  I know the 49th Congressional District isn't predominantly Democratic but it also is no Nebraska or Oklahoma.  In case any of you haven't been paying addition, Southern California and even particularly around San Diego has an edge in Democratic voter registration over Republican voter registration.  Therefore, if the Democratic voter registration doesn't trickle down to the 49th Congressional District now, it will eventually (whether in this election cycle or the next election cycle).  Check out the following article:

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
