The Center for Sustainability, Greensburg GreenTown, and GreenTown Joplin are proud to present the 2012 Sustainable Disaster Recovery Conference to be held on the campus of Saint Louis University on Monday, October 29 and Tuesday, October 30.
The conference aims to help cities stricken by natural disasters rebuild strong, livable communities by identifying ways to efficiently and effectively weave elements of sustainability into the disaster recovery process, while increasing collaboration among all parties working toward this goal.

According to a FEMA seminar on youth preparedness that I attended in July 2012:
72 hours is the minimum timeframe for planning
Chicago Red Cross finds fires are the most common emergency
The able bodied are a minority of the general population
25% of the general population are children
Whole community planning is necessary to provide for those children, elderly, infirm, and people with special needs
We should shelter families together and provide respite care for the primary caregivers
Every adult in official contact with children in a shelter has to have a background check
Pets should always be included in preparedness programs
I believe Solar IS Civil Defense and planning for practical resilience is the way to mitigate and adapt, as best we can, to any emergency or disaster which is coming down the line, from killer storms to human stupidity.
