Monday!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
Ayup - got a few trick-or-treaters last night, too. They're just going to trickle through until Wednesday.
Sometime today or tomorrow, Sandy will make landfall, so I hope all y'all up there on the coast are prepared. We're keeping our fingers crossed that things aren't so bad.
I'm hoping to get some more organizing done this evening so I can settle down to do some sewing. I've been meaning to sew me a winter coat for nearly 20 years now, and I finally drafted the pattern I want and found almost all the fabric I want. I still need to find the right closures and am slowly resigning myself to having to make them instead of being able to buy them. They aren't difficult,t hey just have to be the right color - I need blue turquoise frog closures, and they have to be the right shade of blue turquoise. I know how to make them, I just didn't want to if I could buy them because buying them is cheaper than making them.
And yes, I'm aware of how picky I am - I could have had a bunch of coats by now if I was willing to settle for just any coat. Is it sad that I prefer to be chilled than to wear a coat I don't really want? Because that's what I've done for 20 years.
I admit, if I lived farther north and it was colder, I'd compromise. But I live where it's warm enough I can get away with not having a coat if I don't mind getting chilled between the car and house/work/stores.
I do have an umbrella, hat, and gloves I like, and those make a big difference in being cold.
