Before even starting to read my diary,
maybe you should just click on this link:

And read about the big storm.
And I mean big:
If you receive an evacuation order and ignore it, write your Social Security Number on yourself in permanent marker so rescue crews can identify your body if they find it.
That would be really funny,
except it's not.
You know you need to read weatherdude's diary,
so click on the link,
and read about the big storm.
Catch you later.
My wife and I had a kind of party,
25 people or so
at an all-you-can-eat restaurant,
to celebrate our first wedding anniversary.
The summary
and afterglow,
below the squiggly:
We had a pretty good time in general.
I cried twice.
The first time I cried
was as I sat down with my salad;
I had been to that same restaurant
many times,
over a period of more than seven years,
from the middle of 1999
to late 2007,
with my first wife,
Pam.
Pam died on the 11th of March, 2008.
Pam always asked for salad when we first arrived,
hungry,
and joyfully asking me to get her a salad,
and I got her sliced cucumbers,
and thousand island dressing,
and shredded cheese,
and sunflower nuts
on top.
So the salad made me think of Pam,
so I cried.
The second time I cried
was as I sat down with a small steak,
cooked medium well,
smothered with a seemingly ridiculous quantity of real butter.
I had eaten steak covered in real butter
on one of those occasions with Pam,
and Tonia was there,
(Pam was born disabled,
and Tonia was paid by your tax dollars
to take care of Pam)
and Tonia remembered that,
a huge pile of butter on my steak,
and during the three years
between Pam's death,
and my marriage to Tonia,
there was a text from Tonia
on my phone,
a text about someone eating steak smothered in butter,
and that text was a thin lifeline,
a glimmer of hope,
hope that I might find a good companion,
someday,
and that it might be Tonia.
I cried so hard,
before eating that steak.
About the guests:
Tonia had only a handful of friends in high school,
and most of them were there.
Tonia has a few cousins
who have always been ready to help,
when truly needed,
and they were there.
Tonia has a few aunts,
and they were there.
Tonia has a sister and three brothers,
and all of them,
except one of the brothers,
was there.
I have a brother and three sisters,
but my sisters live far away,
and my brother never returns any calls,
so none of them were there.
So,
you are invited to this diary;
you're my friends.
I have a family,
a new family,
my new wife,
Tonia's family,
but I have very few friends.
If a friend is someone I talk with on a regular basis,
someone who understands me,
and nearly always takes my side,
or at least understands my point of view,
then I have one friend,
a man named John,
and a few of you here at Daily Kos,
and that's about it.
I hope a few of you read this,
and express a little friendship.
My bride,
Tonia,
is very affectionate,
and her whole family apparently accepts me well enough,
I suppose.
But I want a friend,
someone who understands me
(and takes my side, maybe?)
when my new family talks down to me,
explaining that I'm socially retarded.
(Tonia and one of her brothers
just did that.)
I hope I have a few friends here.
I hope at least one or two of them read this,
and comfort me a little.
I can also write a letter to John.
Thanks for reading.
