Tammy Baldwin gets a valuable assist in her campaign for the Wisconsin senate seat:

CLINTON:  One big difference between Tammy Baldwin and Tommy Thompson is that she stood up to the special interests, and he's stood up for them. If you put people first, it works better than trickle-down economics.... Thanks to Tammy Baldwin, there are three-million young people under the age of 26 who are now on their parents' health insurance policy.... We will bring America back in a fair, balanced, progressive way—with Tammy Baldwin, you can count on it."
The narrative that Thompson is out for himself and out for the special interests has real traction in this race, fueled by Thompson. He's refused to release his tax returns, has forgotten how many houses he owns, and has been hurt by having significant investments in companies doing business in Iran. Then, of course, there's how he profited off of 9/11 first responders.

Now there's a new revelation about his private finances that's going to sting.

Madison -- U.S. Senate candidate Tommy Thompson took ownership of more than $125,000 in stock this month for sitting on the board of a medical device company that has faced lawsuits and federal investigations.

Thompson in 2005 joined the board of C.R. Bard Inc., a New Jersey medical device maker that last year paid $184 million to resolve 2,600 lawsuits, has about 1,000 other lawsuits pending and has faced investigations by federal prosecutors.

Goal Thermometer
He received the 1,200 shares of stock on Oct. 1, taking ownership of them without having to pay for them. Apparently they're a perk of board membership. His campaign has been clear in stating that as a board member "Governor Thompson is not involved in the daily operations of these companies."

He apparently just gets to sit on the board and profit handsomely, while doing nothing to oversee those operations and to make sure these companies don't break the law. Nice work, if you can get it.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

Thompson is beginning to wilt badly under the stress.  Who would have thought a few months ago that she could pull this off?

went from awful to horrible in the past week.  Lying about her votes not just on the 9/11 hero honoring bill which was crammed with support for terrible Republican legislation like the Patriot Act, but he's now lying that she voted against providing body armor for our soldiers.

When you have an agenda that is as unpopular as the Republicans is, resorting to outright lying has become the strategy.  And at a time when our media (particularly state and local) has hit rock bottom in their failure to call out those lies, I worry that voters will, once again, get fooled like they did with RoJo (Ron Johnson) and Scott Walker.

So so so want her to win this! She's so great, such an outstanding public servant.

Just sent Tammy some $$ the other day with my last Act Blue blitz (yes my checking account is low, why do you ask? LOL). Sent $$ to Sherrod Brown and Chris Murphy, too. We need all these great folks in the Senate -- to keep my future Senator Elizabeth Warren company if nothing else :-)

in all of the media.  TV, radio, all saturated with the harshest, most negative ads hitting Tammy.  It's awful, and they just don't stop. They are polling pretty close, and Tommy seems to be closing the gap.  I truly fear what will happen if Tommy wins this....he will make Ron Johnson look like a rocket scientist in comparison.  Somebody please find the rock he slid out from and put him back there.

there was an outsized lead for Tammy in the aggregates because of one strange poll from MU that had her up double digits.  When that one reverted to a close race, it caused a HUGE shift in the averages.

this has always been a close race with a slight advantage to Tammy.  she needs our help to combat Tommy's despicable ads and Get Out The Vote in this last week

So about those shares - that's taxable income, would be interesting to see if the shares were declared as income...if we could ever see Gov. Thompson's taxes, that is.

The ad also indirectly makes the case for Obama too.

Which raises the interesting point that Obama is getting a benefit from the united Democratic message being played across the country in Senate and House races.

And God bless the Big Dog!!!!

  •  I love this ad (0+ / 0-)

because that is my daughter walking alongside Tammy Baldwin!  She is the one on the left of the screen.  LOL!

Of course it is great that Clinton is campaigning for Baldwin!  I think she will beat grumpy old Tommy especially with all of the financial data coming out against him.
