The way these people twist reason is beyond my capacity to comprehend.
The robocall started off by saying that Obama is taking money from poor people.
Ok...what? So here's their reasoning.
By forcing religious institutions to "defend their conscience" (i.e. Catholic institutions have to provide full insurance coverage just like everyone else and not just cherry pick whatever coverage they want), Obama is forcing religious institutions to re-allocate resources away from helping poor people (while, of course, shaming and manipulating them) and into a lawyer's pocket.
"Do you stand for religious freedom?" the robocall asked me. "Do you want to help poor people?"
Vote for Romney, it instructed me. So now I understand. Poor people don't "want" contraceptives covered in their insurance plan that they pay for. They want that money to be used by the Church to help them. And soon, without coverage for contraceptives, there will be a whole lot more of them to need help. Talk about fostering a culture of dependence...
I nearly yelled "No!" into the phone, knowing no one but a machine was on the other end.
It was from some "Catholics for Romney" group.
