Saturday!
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. It's also so we can find other Kossacks nearby for in-person checks when other methods of communication fail - a buddy system. Members come here to check in. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we and your buddy are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
If you'd like to be part of the Itzl Alert Network, please leave a comment asking to join, or send us a message asking to join. We'd love to have you. The bigger our network, the less likely someone will be stranded all alone.
I was going to go to either Emerald City or the Victorian Mourning Exhibit at the museum today, but instead, I have to spend the whole day waiting once more for the ISP to come fix their broken lines.
I've spent the past month checking to find where the issue was with the internet - took my computer in for a check up, checked and updated the router, checked and updated the modem, and re-checked the computer, only to continue to receive really poor connectivity. The ISP finally admitted it was their lines at fault, and they require that I be home in case they need to check the modem receptivity once they fix the lines.
Last March, when all this actually began, the technician said I had too much "juice" coming in and ramped it down. Ever since then, I've been unable to get and stay connected for long, completely unable to stream any videos, whether it's weather videos from the local news station or short YouTubes of cute kitties. Forget Netflix. I haven't been able to stream a single movie since March - not that it mattered much, I was busy and didn't have time to watch movies. But winter's coming and I'm less likely to be outdoors (mowing, usually). I'd like to be able to watch a movie now and then. Or the weather.
My daughter called my ISP and they said they'd send a tech out the very next day. I waited and the tech didn't come. We called and was told the tech had called - but there was no record of a missed call and no voice mail.
So they rescheduled for later the next day. Same thing.
And repeat.
Last Saturday, they said they couldn't send a tech out until today.
I will probably be stood up again. It's to their advantage, after all. My time is worthless to them because I obviously have nothing else to do but wait for a tech who will never come.
This diary has been queued to post. And I have one in the queue for tomorrow in case they still don't have my internet fixed.
