More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  The differences are so stark! (5+ / 0-)

Obama has, including himself, five on the road going to different places, Romney has just two (since Ann is going to the same place as Mitt).

Where are Romney's top surrogates...and why aren't the women out there "holding their own." Indeed, where has Mrs. Ryan been THROUGHOUT THIS RACE?

Wow, nothing illustrates the differences better than the way the two contenders value the contributions made by their wives.

(Granted, I acknowledge the oddity of Hillary having never shown her face at all on the campaign trail, but Bill's presence has always been a huge exception to all rules. Expecting Hillary to be a part of that may just be a bridge too far.)

It is ignorance which is hopeless.

Plus it is home to your passport when it is being renewed.

There are a lot more international airports then you realize in the US. It doesn't mean there are international fights at a given airport. Just that there is a customs and immigration presence to process flight from abroad.

    •  I thought that was weird (1+ / 0-)
      Recommended by:

why aren't they actually leaving the airports and going out to the cities?  Did they not plan far enough ahead to get a place?  Arrange security?

Having a campaign event at an airport is just strange - most airports charge for parking (if you can find it).

I'm going to Obama's event tomorrow here in Hollywood, FL.  It's on a high school football field - there is no parking anywhere around - it's all residential.  They are doing shuttles from the local community college, but I scoped out the neighborhood and there are some shops and strip centers within a mile of the school, so some of us are going to meet there and walk to the school.  The gates don't open until 12:30, but we're going to be there early - I'd rather wait in line with friends - I have a feeling, even though we have tickets, that there won't be enough room for everybody who wants to go.  I'm really excited, it's the first time I've been able to go to a campaign event since I saw Kerry at CB Smith park - every time the President has been here (or Michelle) I'm stuck at work or I'm up at my mom's taking care of stuff for her.

Obama/Biden and family are all over the map in all of the battlegrounds.

    On the other hand...

Romney/Ryan are sticking to friendlier locals. Two airport stops starting in NH then IA on the way CO Springs, and the Denver Subs. Then Ryan bailing out of OH to Richmond, VA and the "Dem stronghold" of Panama City, FL. They are not acting like the last 72 hours is on. Their internal polls must tell them they are about to get flattened because they are acting like it.

Reality is beating ideology head on... again.

I was invited on a live listening call with President Obama yesterday at 11:30am eastern.  And Obama said flat out that as it stands now "we should win this."  Of course he went on to say that the only way it comes to fruition is if we don't let up now, yadda yadda yadda.  And he sounded TIRED.  But it is clear that we are in the lead.  And it's apparent that the Romney camp knows it as well.  They are clearly discouraged and simply running out the clock now ... essentially hoping for a miracle from Kasich/Husted in Ohio and Scott in Florida to steal the vote from enough people through their various shenanigans in order to win.

  •  That NH stop (6+ / 0-)

Should not actually count as a campaign stop.

That's a "we were at our NH house and are flying out." stop, in the middle of nowhere.

It should actually count as avoiding a campaign appearance or two.  With minimal additional effort, he could have flown out of Manchester and either had a reasonable appearance there, or stopped at Concord on the way, or both.

Which is to say, he thinks NH is such a lost cause, he just blew off two chances to have meaningful campaign appearances there.

you can see the lack of energy in the romney rally's, forced enthusiasm is not energy and can't be faked, look at ann as she stands behind mitt, that expression says it all.

  •  the schedule is a major tell (7+ / 0-)

what I mean by this is that the Dems are going with 4 speakers with minimal overlap and effectively the Republicans are going with only 2, because Ann Romney only appears with Mitt.

That gives the Dems a huge coverage advantage, a better opportunity to rev up enthusiasm for their side.

Dems seem to be doing a better job of turning out people for events.  Let's take just the event in Bristow with Obama, Bill Cllinton and Dave Matthews:  so far our household has received 3 phone calls and email invitations from 4 different lists, some more than once.

Because we are not registered by party in Virginia, we also get invitations to some Republican events, never more than once.  Checking with active Republican acquaintances, their contact level is less than what we are receiving from Dems.

I think we are also seeing this in terms of size of crowds - there is space at some Romney and Ryan events, but to use one example Michelle Obama's event at Hampton was overflowing.

Given the amount of early voting in some of the states being visited - Iowa, OH and FL in particular - not sure how much impact late appearances has.

As a former Pennsylvanian, I can note that Joe Biden was considered our third senator, both because of his proximity in Delaware and his roots in Scranton.  Jill will be an effective surrogate in her multiple stops in the Keystone State.

  •  So it looks like OFA is playing in to the (3+ / 0-)
    Recommended by:
    Sloth, mdmslle, Amber6541

PA is in play not in the way that it hurts Obama, but in the way that it may hurt Romney, by diverting some attention his campaign should be spending elsewhere.

If Romney uses ads and a Ryan stop to get from losing PA by 8-9 points to only losing it by 3-4 points, it doesn't matter.

But OFA may sneak in and take FL, NC, and CO, while already securing the victory through WI,  VA and NV.  (that gets Obama to 270 without OH).  Of course, OFA is confident they'll take OH and IA (getting to 294).

And if they are able to pick off CO, FL, and NC (from most to least likely).  The Electoral count goes from 294 to 303 (with CO), 332 (with FL as well), and up to 347 (with NC as well) which would really be a pretty huge victory for Obama.

I like Michelle more than Barack.

      100% sure.

Here's how you can tell, if you have any doubt.  Last night, Mitt was in Ohio.  Then he flew home to spend the night in NH - and is heading back out to CO, stopping for that rally on the tarmac on the way.

If PA was in play (or MI or MN or WI or IA), he'd have spent the night there and would have done something this morning before heading out to CO.  Just cutting out the trip to NH would have made plenty of time for a "free" event.  Even if that event was only symbolic.
