Here are the latest figures out of Iowa. This is the first time the Iowa SOS has provided a Saturday update this election cycle.
Here are the cumulative numbers for the absentee ballot requests:
Dems 301,767 (42.60%)
Reps 219,354 (30.97%)
Inds 186,262 (26.30%)
Oth 930 (negligible)
TOTAL 708,313
Here are the new ballot requests since the last report:
Dems +5,690
Reps +6,132
Inds +6,087
For the first time in a very long while, Republicans requested more absentee ballots by Democrats, though not by much. This is nothing to be concerned about.
And now, here are the cumulative numbers for actual ballots cast:
Dems 261,166 (42.55%)
Reps 198,130 (32.28%)
Inds 153,684 (25.04%)
Oth 769 (negligible)
TOTAL 613,749
Here are the ballots cast since the previous daily report:
Dems +10,088
Reps +9,832
Inds +9,692
This represents an uptick in early voting from the last daily report. Overall turnout is up sharply from 2008. In that election, about 545,000 votes were cast before election day. Currently, 613,749 votes have been cast already and there are still three days of early voting left. We now lead in ballots cast by 63,036. By the end of early voting in 2008, we led Republicans by about 94,000 ballots cast. By the end of early voting in 2004 (about 460,000 ballots cast) we were ahead by 52,000 ballots cast.
We're in a good position, but there is work to be done! GOTV!
