New Moderate Storm Likely
Its 'likely', not totally for sure, but that is the last thing needed by folks still in dire straits from Sandy....
The European model, which did an exemplary job forecasting Hurricane Sandy, is slower, predicting the Nor'easter's highest winds will begin affecting New Jersey on Wednesday night. The GFS model is about 12 hours faster, predicting the strongest winds will arrive on Wednesday morning. A 12-hour period of strong winds of 40 - 45 mph will likely affect the coast from Maryland to Massachusetts, accompanied by a swath of 2 - 3" of rain. The heaviest rains will likely fall over Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The storm also has the potential to bring more than a foot of snow to mountain areas of New England. The storm is still four days away, and four-day forecasts of the path and intensity of Nor'easters usually have large errors. Nevertheless, residents and relief workers in the region hit by Sandy should anticipate the possibility of the arrival on Wednesday of a moderate-strength Nor'easter with heavy rain, accompanied by high winds capable of driving a 1 - 2 foot storm surge with battering waves. The surge and waves will potentially cause moderate to severe erosion on New Jersey coast, where Hurricane Sandy pulverized the protective beach dunes.
People are already extremely stressed, and a new cold winter wind storm is bound to increase their needs and dictate that relief efforts be increased and sped up where possible.
The National Guard
The National Guard has been called out already for Sandy in a big way, but more may be needed...

Guard lends support to 13 states hit by Sandy

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, more than 11,000 Army and Air National Guard troops were deployed to aid the storm-ravaged Northeast, saving lives, providing shelter and helping restore communities.
In New York, where power and transportation infrastructures were crippled by the storm Oct. 29 and 30, the National Guard planned to give out more than 1 million meals and bottled water to residents of areas affected.
Troops were manning more than a dozen distribution sites in hard-hit areas of Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn soon after the Nov. 1 announcement, handing out meals supplied by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
The Guard has been used to supplement troops in the middle east over the last years. If needed, would love to see the President bring troops home from Afghanistan sooner than planned to aid in the recovery in the Eastern US !

I am so encouraged to see such good news in the midst of so much that is discouraging! We can pull together as a country but we must overcome those who have been trying to divide us in the name of GREED !

4:28 PM PT: FEMA and Red Cross officials ordered more resources ahead of a potential nor’easter next week, while New York City saw a shortage of fuel oil and steam to heat buildings as temperatures began dipping into the 20s and power remained out for hundreds of thousands.

Power was restored to nearly all of lower Manhattan on Saturday, but it was still lights out for 2.3 million homes in other parts of New York City and the rest of the Northeast, especially Long Island and the New Jersey shore.

"Freezing temps in Sandy areas; snow next along with nor'easter?"
In addition, "tens of thousands are without steam power and therefore heat," New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Saturday.
"We want to get as many people into shelters as we can," he said, given the cold and the potential for a new storm that computer models now show being even stronger than forecast on Friday.
