I was driving home today from buying a new pair of running shoes, and was stuck for several lights behind an oversized overpriced SUV (you know the type) with several bumper stickers on the back, and I was forced to stare at a bumper sticker - -
Protect Freedom
REMOVE OBAMA
Since the lights were slow and the traffic thick, I had way too much time to analyze this sticker, my random thoughts below the squiggly.
There are two statements on this bumper sticker, and one would have to assume the statements are associated. How many bumper stickers do you see that have two independent statements on them? The first statement 'Protect Freedom' - who is not in favor of protecting freedom? But then, the first statement is immediately followed by 'REMOVE OBAMA'. So, the implication is that, to protect freedom, you must remove President Obama from office. Hello? Does anyone ever follow the news?
Things that risk our freedom -
1. Inserting our country into two undeclared wars.
2. Lowering taxes while doing so, thus pushing the economy into a severe recession.
3. Passing a draconian Patriot Act, which allows our government the 'freedom' of
spying on its own citizens.
4. Removing our social safety nets, that allow citizens to recover from a recession.
5. Working to destroy our public education system.
6. Continue to promote the privatization of the most over-priced healthcare system
in the world.
Things that protect our freedom -
1. Tracking down and destroying the true terrorists, both internal and external.
2. Allowing women to have control over their own reproductive system.
3. Promoting change in archaic traditions of marriage.
4. Rescuing the economy and protecting it from collapse.
5. Creating strong alliances with other countries, with a vigorous State Department.
6. Protecting our air, water, earth, and climate.
So, I look at this bumper sticke and I am genuinely baffled - how misinformed can you be and still own such an expensive and overly ostentatious vehicle? Oops I forgot, they are the 'job creators' that earned it on the backs of others.
I will close with just one more idle thought, and I am really not trying to stereotype anyone. Have you ever noticed that certain models of cars are more apt to have certain bumper stickers? I wonder if there has ever been a study done with this.
