Mitt Romney the 45th President of the United States of America:
Come November 6, the United States will see the biggest political shocker in the history of this great young nation. Mitt Romney will be unofficially declared the next US President-elect. As an undecided voter, until late in the process for this election, I have seen the media the last few days with all of the Hurricane Sandy coverage, all but re-elect President Obama for the November 6 election for the United States Presidency.
If you are a Mitt Romney supporter, from watching all of that coverage, you might as well stay home and not miss the next airing of the Honey Boo Boo reality show. After all, with the way gas prices are these days, why even bother? This probably would be the case if you ended up missing the airing of the first debate back on October 3.
What many in the National Media have failed to realize is that after that first debate; the beating, mugging and made to scream “uncle” lesson that Barack Obama received has not gone unnoticed by many voters that WILL show up to vote on November 6. Since October 15 after that first debate, Mitt Romney has been leading in most national polls by over 50%. Not only did Obama lose the debate that first night but also the title of “best orator” when debating the issues. During that debate, Obama clearly looked unprepared, uninterested and in pure shock at how well presidential Romney took complete command in front of 68 million households.
At that point, if that was a football game Romney had taken the lead in the game 35 to 3. Ever since then, Obama and his campaign have been playing catch-up and running the two-minute offense in trying to come from behind in the national polls.
This gave hope to a very dispirited Romney base; who up to that point were waving the white flag after the airing of a Romney video back in the spring at a Boca Raton fundraiser, telling his donors that 47% of America depended on government aid and did not pay income taxes.
It was clear afterwards, that Mr. Romney was dead wrong on his logic. As the facts cleared afterwards, it turns out that many of that 47 % that Romney was referring to do in fact pay taxes on wages. However, they are so low on the poverty pay-scale that they do not qualify to pay income tax.
In coming back to the impact that night after the first debate, Mitt Romney’s supporters clearly saw that they do have a chance to help him take back the White House for the GOP.
On the other hand, that very motivated young base that propelled Obama to the presidency in 2008 has been lost in the woods. This was evident with the venue change for the last night of the Democratic Convention where it went from being held at the Bank of America Stadium, which seats over 75,000+ to an indoor basketball arena with not even a third of that capacity. They could use rain excuse after rain excuse. The fact is clear, a very motivated base would have braved the elements outdoors for the Democratic Convention. Not even in the streets do you see any of the enthusiasm showed by the Obama supporters in the run-up to the election in 2008. Calling all fainters during campaign rallies.
Obama’s team and the political pundits could use quote after quote or formula after formula, that Hurricane Sandy did give the momentum back to Obama. If this is the case, that number is still so small that it will not make a dent in the outcome of the November 6 US Presidential election.
Nevertheless, both bases are going to come out and support their candidate. The question that remains to be seen is, which base will turn out to vote in greater numbers? All along it has been known that it will come down to the independent and last minute undecided to now decided voters that will determine the outcome of this election. The October surprise for Romney was that first debate to start the month. The result is clear that it allowed Romney to convince and grab the small amount of voters in the middle and the undecided to come on board with his campaign. Come November 6 we will know.
