I am a Voter. I am voting for more than myself. i am voting for Thomas Chamberlain, my first love who died of HIVAids in 1993. Thomas would have been so amazed to have voted for a president who looked like him. Same smile. compassionate heart. a strong black man. my friends that knew Thomas knew that he was the kindest most beautiful man and knew i was so very lucky to be with him. What a hard time that was, living through the AIDs epidemic and coming into my own as a young gay man as my friends were dying all around me and then Thomas getting sick.... This election i also carry my love for David. We just celebrated 10 years together but cannot legally marry and get the same benefits as other couples. We live in california. Obama has been the best president regarding GLBT rights in my lifetime. i am proud of our President. i also carry with me the strong women in my life.. my sisters and mom and aunts and my grandma and my best friend Maw. i am voting for equal pay for equal work and a women's right to choose. Who do you carry with you into the voting booth?

i am voting for Obama. i am voting for his support of gay rights, a women's right to choose, i am voting AGAINST the republicans who have in this election cycle supported voter suppression. and i am voting against the divisiveness and hate of Fox News and rightwing talk radio. i am voting for Obama for the Dream Act, and for immigration reform. i am voting against hate and bigotry. i am voting for a separation of church and state. i am voting for Obama to appoint possibly two judges to the Supreme court and for pushing to reverse Citizens United. and yes i am voting for Obama because he put modern/contemporary art in the white house. and he saved the auto industry. I can't just sit around and hope for the best. FORWARD Obama 2012

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

the more people I carry with me, not only into the voting booth, but everywhere else too.  I talk to them inside my head. Even though I know they can't hear me it still gives me comfort.

Both of my ex-Republican parents voted for Obama in 2008 and were ready to again, but they passed away earlier this past year.  I'm voting for them, my cousin who passed away from HIV related illness several years ago and 3 friends who have died over the past 20 years from HIVAids.

I'm in Maryland and my husband and I and our 2 kids and all voted YES on Question 6 (for same-sex marriage).

I really can't understand why some people feel so threatened by same-sex marriage.  (I know their reasons but I still can't empathize with their fears.)

We were legally married in CA, but our marriage isn't recognized (yet) here in WA.

Beautiful tribute. And yes, I remember loved ones I lost to AIDs with a fierce kind of sorrow and triumph. Bless your heart.
