Update: To be clear, "True" the Vote is a sham, teabagger operation. I meant to second TBogg's call to flood their lines. However, as some have noted in the comments, this, as well as reporting their own operatives, might actually inflate their totals and lend credence to their cause in the future. I'm adding a poll below to get feedback about whether to take this diary down. Please also add you thoughts in the comments.
As TBogg notes, the group calling themselves "True the Vote" has set up a complaint hotline for reporting vote fraud, suppression, intimidation, etc. The number is 855-444-6100.
You can also report voting difficulties online here. The twitter hashtag is #watchthevote.
TBogg further notes that these people are probably going to be quite bored. Let's keep them company and make sure their time is not wasted in their efforts to document and respond to actual instances of voter fraud, intimidation, and attempted suppression.
We all know the story behind these efforts: these people want to prevent as many would-be Democratic votes as they possibly can. It is a sad and naked admission of two unpleasant truths:
- the Republican base is shrinking in the face of an expansive America
- the remaining base of increasingly rural, southern, white, and older people doesn't really have a problem suppressing other people votes -- it's been their preferred MO for a long, long time
This is not a new fight and, even if we win today, it will be far from over if it ever really can be said to be over. But one way to join the struggle is to let these people know that you see what they're doing and that you will resist their best efforts to suppress the vote.
