Not much of a diary, but just a thought. Democrats should use this lame duck session to get some serious legislation done by using the threat of Harry Reid changing the rules in the new Senate and doing away with the filibuster. I'm listening to the pundits on CNN (I live in Budapest, Hungary, and that's all I can get) bloviating about how Democrats need to work with Republicans to fix the nation's problems, and because the nation is so divided, we need to be all bipartisan-y because Obama barely got 50% of the popular vote.
Bullshit.
I heard all this crap at the end of 2000 and early 2001, and what did George Bush do? He treated his popular vote loss and Supreme Court victory as a mandate to do everything he said he was going to do during his campaign. There was no attempt to work with Democrats. Bush went ahead and pushed his tax cuts through and started rolling back Clinton-era legislation immediately. And it was more of the same when he narrowly won reelection in 2004. So why do Democrats need to do ANYTHING to placate Republicans when we won the election? Their reward for losing is to have us meet them halfway to their views, and we have already moved three-quarters of the way toward them already?
Huh-uh. Tell the Republicans in Congress they either help us pass legislation to get Americans back to work, keep the Bush tax cuts for everybody making under $250,000 (or we throw them a bone here and make it $500,000) and whatever else we want to get done, or we sic the Bulldog on them in the next Congress. Hell, they're all for nuclear energy anyway, so if Harry goes all nucular on them, they shouldn't be too put out. After all, it was their idea anyway. And if they are put out, so what? They're going to scream and lie and cry about everything already, so let's really give them something to scream and cry about. After watching a lot of decent legislation die in the Senate because of Republican attempts to make Obama a one-term president, it's time to make payback the bitch that it is.
Anyway, that's all I got. Give 'em hell, Harry, and they can just hope that the bulldog of Damocles isn't Triumph the Insult Comic Dog waiting to poop on them. I leave you with John Boehner's tan line after all the crying from last night.
