Dear Friends,
I know you are still in shock from the shellacking your party received last night. It's clear to me from some of the things your leaders are saying that they are still in the 'denial' phase for the stages of grief, and its understandable.
You however, have an opportunity here to turn lemons into lemonade. If twenty or thirty of you who are frustrated and angry about spending the last two years shuffling abortion amendments around instead of serving your country and your constituents' interests come together and decide to give true bipartisanship a chance you can save the republican party from absolute ruin and give your individual careers the boost they are going to need. Here's how you do it:
Find some like-minded, actual moderate Republican's in your midst. I know, you have been hiding in your office closets for a long time, but its time to come out and find one another.
Second, form an "Independent Republican" caucus. One where you forego pledges to the Grover Nordquists of this world and rededicate yourselves to working for the good of your nation.
Third, go to Nancy Pelosi and offer to support her election to speaker of the house with the understanding that she will make up to half the committee chairmanships Republicans. Nothing will happen with Mr. Boehner in the Speakership which means the next election is going to go against you just as much as this one just did. Its time to take a new direction.
I can hear you screaming now "that's political suicide" but hear me out. Did you see the pictures of Mr. Obama and Mr. Christie in New Jersey last week? Did you see the polls which said more than 70% of Americans applauded their putting ideology aside to get the job done? Those of you who take a chance in working with Democrats to get the job done will be supported by their constituents for reelection.
Every single vulnerable Democrat in the house retained their seat and picked up two more in a year when Democrats should have lost seats. Seats were added in the Senate (and not Blue Dogs either - true Liberals and Progressives). This is the direction the country is heading in. If you want to remain relevant its time to give your party "elders" a break and find new leadership. Leadership who can see that working together is more effective than constant obstruction.
Good luck folks. You are going to need it.
