Our long national nightmare is over. With luck, it will be at least three months before the 2016 election ramps up in earnest.
Blast from the Past. At Daily Kos on this date in 2005—IN-08: Heartless vote comes back to haunt Republican:
The Indiana 8th CD is known as the "bloody eight", and it produces some of the tightest races every single cycle. It's been held by Republican John Hostettler for a few cycles now, but anew sheriff is in town (literally)—Brad Ellsworth—and he aims to clean house (literally).
Suddenly, events in the Gulf Coast and his district have conspired to make Hostettler's life miserable.
Expect to see a lot more of Vanderburgh Co., IN sheriff Brad Ellsworth. He's been a steady television presence over the weekend, calming nerves and briefing the press after tornados killed ...
The district is represented by GOP Rep. John Hostettler, who was one of eleven in the House to vote against the mammoth Katrina aid package last month.
Hostettler was excoriated by editorial boards (and even a local priest) for his vote.
The tornado killed 22 people and injured more than 200 in Vanderburgh County. Suddenly, Hostettler's heartlessness to the victims of the Katrina disaster has local salience. |
Tweet of the Day:
The conservative punditocracy's first stab at a path back to power is to teach minorities that it's wrong to be moochers. Try harder, guys.

Kagro in the Morning is back, with our first post-election show!
Greg Dworkin joined us for the post-mortem on the "quants" versus the "guts." And we wrapped the show with a call from
Steve Singiser, who brought us up to date on the Congressional races. In between, we got a little weedy on filibuster reform (which Sen. Reid is floating again), how it might work, what to look out for in the way of Republican mewling about it, and why it matters even if the House is staying Republican.
