As you know, Minnesota was one of four states to stand up for marriage equality this past Tuesday. The organization leading the "Vote No" effort, Minnesotans United for All Families, was simply amazing. Their leadership was flawless and focused, their passionate volunteers made calls and knocked on every door in the state, and their advertising was brilliant (featuring many republicans who were voting no).
As expected, on election night, it was a tight race, with the Vote No effort maintaining a small lead thoughout. Many volunteers and good Minnesotans gathered in a ballroom in St. Paul to watch the returns and hopefully celebrate together. As the night wore on, it became apparent that the race would not be called before everyone needed to leave the ballroom at 2:00 a.m.
Richard Carlbom, the genius at the helm of Minnesotans for All Families, gathered his staff and dozens of volunteers backstage in order to thank them, encourage them, and to let them know that they needed to head back to the ballroom to tell people to go home for the night. You can see how much they all love him.
Then, after months and months of hard work, all of the strategizing, the phone calls, the time away from their families to defeat this hurtful amendment...the news came.
Enjoy!
