Dear Friends,
A few years ago, Mr. Bo Bice cut his luxuriously long hair and gave that hair to Locks of Love, a charity that makes wigs for chemotherapy patients who have lost their hair. Bo inspired me to grow my hair to also donate to Locks of Love. In the years following, friends have been diagnosed with cancer and I have offered them my hair, but it has not been needed, so I continued growing it. Then, in October of last year, my mom was diagnosed with gynocological cancer. Of course, I offered her my hair. Sadly, the chemotherapy was unsuccessful, and she died on December 17th, 11 days after her 72 birthday, and the day after the eight year anniversary of my dad's death, also from cancer.
I am part of three large communities, The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA), Bo Bice's Bo Peeps, and Daily Kos. I would like to mark my mom's birthday, so there will be an auction competition. Whichever community donates the most will be the one to do the first cut of my hair. The hair that is cut will be donated to Locks of Love. The money raised will go to the BC Cancer Agency, which was Mom's home for the last two and a half months of her life. This auction will begin on December 6th, Mom's birthday, and continue until December 17th. I will share more details as the days approach.
Together, I know we can make Mom proud and make the world brighter for at least some cancer patients.
Thank you !
Love and Hugs,
Heather
