I am not normally a mean-spirited guy.  Maybe I am a bit protective of our President.  I remember so clearly how palin led rallies in 2008 where people screamed that Obama should be killed (among many other awful things).  I remember the endless mocking and cruelty and utterly dangerous disrespect shown to our President, our first black President.  I remember how these actions were not only condoned, but even perpetrated by, leaders and lawmakers and officials of the GOP (and not just by idiot bloggers and media types).

Personally, I felt an affinity toward President Bush after the 9/11 attacks ( I live and work in nyc).  I felt enraged and defensive when Chavez of Venezuela criticized MY president (even though it was bush).  Conversely, I remember so clearly how a roomful of white folks clapped and cheered at the failure of the United States (led by newly-elected President Obama) to garner the Olympics.

Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow Progressives, I bring you White People Really Really (Really) Upset:
White People Mourning Romney
Yeah, I am sure many of them are just mourning the policies and the positions that they lost.  But you know damn well alot of them are mourning another four years of the black guy!

Spike the Ball!
Live a little!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

of almost 40% of white people.  Racists may mourn, but many white people are celebrating.

I'm glad Barack Obama is our President.

That is exactly what gives me hope.  It feels so damn good to see the spectrum of folks at those giant battleground state rallies in the last 2 weeks!

terms we always speak of a demographic collectively...seniors voted 60-39 for the GOP in 2010 and as such seniors pretty much are the reason we have this Congress, but of course when this kind of statistic is mentioned there is always the senior who has to jump up and say "I didn't". In a democracy, majority rules, and if the majority of your demographic does something, sometimes you're gong to get lumped in with them in summations. I certainly never elected Dubya, but America did.

the phrase "Romney won the white vote" knows it doesn't mean he won every white vote. It means he won the demographic. Every observation like that doesn't require the obligatory exception and %age parsing.

I feel like I need to see a few fellow whites celebrating.  Anyway most of the Obama '12 signs, magnets and bumper stickers are still up in Atlanta (or at least the Dekalb county part of the metro area).

What most disturbed me was the woman wiping her tears with the US flag.  You're not really supposed to do that - it really is more than a bit disrespectful to use our flag as a hankie. In many ways it summarizes the sterility, isolation, and hypocrisy of the right wing.

The guy flying the republican flag at half mast is funny! Except that I don't want to give them any cash I'd do it - just to show them that I consider them brain dead.  It would be best to fly it upside down as well.

        Amazing, no?

Even more stunning, white peeples, those other white peeples. (Or as allergywoman says the 'white morans') made up 88% of Romney's voters.

The 1st statistic is from Nate the 'Silver Poblano' on Nov 6th. The second is from Salon.

No links for you! I inadvertently  closed the pages before I copied the links. By inadvertently I mean 'stupidly' without malice or forethought. Definitely without forethought. Maybe a little malice. I've always got some tucked away somewhere.

      That is so cool!!

(One thing that makes me laugh is people have actually come up to me and said things like since I have a black wife, I can't have a racist bone in my body.  I am uncomfortable with people making such assumptions (although in my case, it's pretty much true), LET ALONE based on somebody having a friend who is black...yes, even a best friend)!!

  •  I have received two on-line Manifestos (0+ / 0-)

So far from a Republican Friend of mine in Miami.  The first one, which kept mentioning God and this election was a nice prayer, and I told her so.  The second one, that mentioned "Restoring America to her Former Glory", well that's when I went "off" and sent as polite an Email as I could back, with a lot references to that phrase.  If I were all of you, and I had a lot of Republican Friends and family members at this time, I would change my Email address.

I don't like to see too much made of the racial divide. It's there and it's real, but we shouldn't keep picking at that scab unnecessarily. Forty percent of us whites supported Obama and  outside the old south the percentage was much higher. I don't want to see the divide grow and become more bitter. There are also large divides based on gender, income and age groups. Making a big deal of this may be counter-productive.

    •  Examples (0+ / 0-)

Outside the South, the gender gap and age gaps were larger than the racial gap. Romney got the following percentages of the white vote: NY=49 CT,NH,WI,CO=51, OH,FL=52 NC=68 MO=65.

      •  That doesn't work. Cause it's not a scab. (0+ / 0-)

It's an open festering wound.   Not talking about it has allowed the racists among us, to slip themselves into our Government and schools and political offices.

Which divide are you referring to? The divide between women and men? The divide between whites and minorities? The divide between whites and whites? That's meant as a real question.

  •  Haven't we all heard over and over for years... (0+ / 0-) a black commentator or celeb can say anything racist against white people and suffer no repercussions, but a white guy in the same position saying stuff against black folks will lose his job??

That is something that has certainly changed since the election of President Obama.
