It amazes me to remember seeing Spanish-American War veterans riding in cars in parades when I was very young.

It amazes me even more to realize that World War II veterans are the same age now as those Spanish-American War veterans were then.

I hope today's children realize what they are seeing before those veterans are all gone.

Sincere thanks to all veterans, young and old.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

veterans march in those parades has been blown, let's not repeat that same mistake for the Iraq/Afghanistan veteran.

Those who fought the war in Afghanistan won it. Get them out of Afghanistan NOW . . . It's long past time. Those who want to wage the next war in Afghanistan are condemned to lose it.

  •  Today's vets are a generation younger (0+ / 0-)

than my kid brother, a Desert Shield/Storm vet, and a generation younger than my youngest brother-in-law, an Air Force vet.

Those guys are both a generation younger than me, and I'm a Cold War vet -- peacetime Air Force.

The guys who served in Vietnam are, now, the age I remember my parents being when I went to grade school.

If you are one, thank you.
If you love one, thank you.
If you know one, never forget.
