I'll admit to a little too much celebrating, a lot of work work, and simply forgetting the calender. Rather than rush out a diary I am going to do this in two parts. I have three books lined up to examine in two weeks concerning Coming Out.
However, this week I'd like to explore our Coming Out stories. One of the things I have noticed in many of the books I've read over the years is the simple fact that most deal with Coming Out as an event. "I came out," are words expressed by the main character but fails to capture a simple truth: we never stop coming out.
As I've expressed here in parts, I came to terms with my sexuality beginning when I was twelve, but didn't really tell anyone until I was 16. Forget the part that techincally I had a boyfriend when I was 15 but the actual words, "I am gay," didn't get spoken until I was 16 - go figure. The things we tell ourselves...
So, if you know of a book that was or is important to you, that helped you identify with what you were feeling, please share. Or if you know a book that you think others would enjoy reading or might be helpful to others, please share. Or if you want to tell your tale, please share.
As always we are looking for contributors to this series. After this and a gay modern science fiction writer I like I may have to delve into books rewriting fairy tales with a queer bent. So if you have some ideas please share those as well.
