On Friday's edition of Focal Point, Bryan Fischer opined that one big reason we need to tighten restrictions on immigration is that increasingly, new immigrants are friendly to Democrats. No, I'm not kidding.
Fischer claimed that while past immigrants share our values, the latest batch of immigrants come from countries that expect the government to take care of them. In particular, most Latinos are "socialists by nature" who want to bring their families across the border so they can suck our economy dry. For that reason, Fischer thinks Republicans should abandon any effort to reach out to Latinos and instead take a hard line on immigration. Translation--unless you're a conservative Republican, don't bother coming to this country. There's only one way this could possibly work--ideological screening of immigrants. Nobody--at least nobody with any degree of sanity--wants that, even if it were workable.
We already knew there was a McCarthyist strain among the fringe. After all, just two weeks before the election, WorldNutDaily columnist Erik Rush wrote that he would have demanded that Democrats and journalists be tried for treason if Romney won. This latest screed by Fischer only underlines it.
