A robocall told me to "Press one to donate to Impeach Obama Now!" Nothing better to do, I pressed one. I spoke to an operator whose speech and accent made me think she was most likely African American. What's up with this?
I had thought I was going to mess with the mind of some rabid RW teapartier. Instead I got a reluctant paid operator who could barely keep to the script. I took the approach that before I donated money to this effort, I wanted to know on what grounds, exactly, they were planning to impeach the president. Because I don't like wasting money and I wasn't about to be snookered into giving to an outfit that wasn't likely to succeed.
I asked the poor woman on the other end "On what grounds do they plan to impeach the president?" She said she didn't really know but, wait, just a minute and let me read this to you. She then proceeded to read the mission statement of the American Conservative PAC which was formed to defeat president Obama and was the most influential and successful PAC blah blah blah - all words written before the election. Not one word about impeaching him.
I asked the operator again about how could they get him impeached? On what grounds? Her reply was "I just really don't know." So I said "Then I am not giving any money if this impeachment thing can't succeed." With obvious relief in her voice she said "Well then I thank you, thank you so much." What a weird experience - me, a (secret) Obama supporter pretending to be a Republican speaking to a (not so secret) Obama supporter who was probably hired by some temp agency to answer the phone for this RW PAC's fundraising scheme.
When I tried to get off the phone she started trying to pull the moves to keep me on the line and engaged she was probably trained to use... "oh but wait!" Wait? No, no waiting for me, "It was nice talking to you! Bye!"
