Dear President Obama:
You promised gifts, extraordinary gifts, for your supporters. I know this because Mitt said so and Mr. Romney is a man of integrity who would never tell a lie.
It's been nine full days since the Presidential election. Still no gift.
I voted for you. I had a bumper sticker on my old truck (hint, hint).
I put up a yard sign. It's still up so you can more easily find my house.
I convinced other people to vote for you even though I didn't agree with a lot of your policies. Was there some kind of purity test? Did Arne and Rahm tell on me? (I knew there was a reason I didn't trust those two.) Anyway, I can do better next time.
(The appeal for gifts continues beyond the orange object that surprisingly looks like a ribbon one would put on a gift.)
I've checked the mail every day. Each time a UPS or FedEx truck goes buy, my hopes go up, only to be disappointed.
You may suggest that it's only been nine days. OK. Just send me a note or postcard letting me know when I'll be receiving my gift.
I thought you might have sent an email regarding my gift, but my computer is old and unreliable (hint, hint). Well it's up and running and I checked my email. Nothing.
Perhaps you hid my gift, like at Easter. I looked all around. No gift.
Hey, maybe if I put up a tree, my gift will be under it in the morning. Keep in mind that Santa gives out all his gifts in one night.
I know that I'm getting older. And I'm a white male. But I went against my demographic. That should count for something.
Besides my wife is a Latina. She voted for you too. She didn't get her gift either. And neither my son (one of those young Latinos) nor his Puerto Rican wife. They both voted for you and I called them about it. No gifts.
The four of us attended a musical last night. We thought maybe you had left tickets for us ... like a surprise gift. Nope. It kinda took the edge off of what was otherwise a great evening.
Now I know that being President takes up some of your time and I don't want to be like a whiner or complainer or anything. It's just that I keep reading about "gifts", "extraordinary gifts", "makers" and "takers".
I'm sure you've got this covered. I'll be looking for my gift to arrive soon.
Thank you.
Your friend,
slatsg
