Phony "Democrat" Erskine Bowles at least delivered us some good news: he won't be the next Treasury Secretary. As far as I am concerned, keeping the faux Democrats away from President Obama's Cabinet is a good thing and I am hopeful that we get an upgrade to Timothy Geithner.
The Charlotte News-Observer has some potentially bad news though.
Since then, Bowles and Simpson have advocated for their plan that includes spending cuts, new revenue and changes to Medicare and Social Security.
The pair appeared on CNBC’s “Closing Bell” on Thursday afternoon. Bowles reportedly confirmed to host Maria Bartiromo off-air that he would not serve as the next Treasury secretary, according to CNBC political reporter Eamon Javers.
Fox Business reporter Charlie Gasparino reported that Bowles would like (Warning: Fox Business link-diarist)to be given a seat at the negotiating table about the upcoming “fiscal cliff,” or the $600 billion mix of tax increases and spending cuts scheduled to go into effect the first of the year.
As far as I am concerned, the only table Bowles should be at is the Fox News table since that's where all the hacks who pretend to be Democrats go. We don't need austerity, we certainly don't need more Catfood Commission bullshit, and President Obama got a goddamn mandate to leave earned benefits alone. Hopefully some real Democrats can tell Bowles where to shove it and push him over the gentle fiscal slope.
2:45 PM PT: CDH in Brooklyn brings up a good point that Bowles would still be welcome on Morning Jo(k)e. I try to forget that Morning Joke even exists and that I'd much prefer Ezra Klein or Chris Hayes in that spot on weekdays on MSNBC.
